I really hate this phrase, but the use here, coupled with the timing of it being first makes it the perfect post. Bravo.

Just honestly curious here: how many 2:09 guys work full-time jobs? ...or race as profusely as BR did? ...or at least oversee a business, while representing themselves? ...and w/out the masseuses, PTs, etc.
Thanks for reminding us that technological advances effect athletic performance.

Why has blatant age discrimination such as this currently popular meme been deemed acceptable in today's political climate?

Because you must be triggered to be in a protected class, and boomers dgaf what some entitled millennial says. Now off to burn some carbon ! ???
Also, why aren't bicycles allowed in foot races? You're still propelling yourself forward with your feet.
The only pure races are barefoot only. Wearing any shoes is cheating.

now this is the most appropriate use of "ok boomer"

I wonder if someone will start up a marathon where you can't wear the 4 or next %. Seems like a business opportunity to attract those in the running community who want nothing to do with the carbon plates.
They’re called ultras.
Camille Herron runs pretty much all of her ultras in 4%s. Seth Ruhling won the JFK 50 mile last month in next %s.
Billy Mills said you should not compare runners of different eras. Good advice. There are a lot of factors that change over time. Mills ran the Olympic 10,000m on a cinder track in the rain. I doubt any olympic level runner today ever runs on a surface that bad even in training. Not a fair comparison.

Bruh, I would be elated if I ran close to 2:09 wearing roller skates and a rocket strapped to my butt.

Because you spent fifteen years trying explain the nation's problems with "everyone got a trophy!" Meanwhile under your astute leadership (assuming you're a Boomer here) real wages stagnated, cost of living skyrocketed, medical care and higher education became luxury commodities, and we doubled down on a fossil fuel based energy system at the expense the health and well-being of future generations. I really hope a few years of hobbling around a golf course in a nice polo shirt is worth it for you.
Evolve or die....
We arent going back to hand timing track meets
We arent going back to cinder tracks
THe NFL isnt going back to leather helmets...

If you run 2:09 or close to that in the marathon using a 4% or an equal shoe don’t try and compare yourself to Bill Rodgers or any good marathoner in history and act like you’re in the same class of runner as them. They used cheaper shoes and worse equipment and they’d still wipe the floor with our best right now.
If you run 2:09 in the marathon in any shoe you don't have to listen to some anonymous schmuk on the letsrun message boards.

Thanks for the heads up! Next time I run 2:09 I won’t compare myself to Bill Rodgers. As a 2:09 guy who wears Vaporflys and frequently reads letsrun this was a really informative post.
Colin Sahlman runs 1:45 and Nico Young runs 1:47 in the 800m tonight at the Desert Heat Classic
