Really dude? Is no one allowed to run faster than the fast guy from when you were growing up a long time ago?
Bill Rodgers was pretty good, sure. But he never ran sub 28 in a 10k, and was a 28:30's for road 10k. He only ran the 2:09 on the downhill Boston course a couple times, never on a course that doesn't have -300+ elevation drop. People complain about CIM being downhill, Boston is even more downhill.
Most of the people running 2:09 now were the same or faster 5k/10k speed from their previous track days as Bill Rodgers. Track spikes are still a very minimal amount of material with some spikes attached to the bottom just like the old days.
Find me a current 2:09 or better guy that hasn't run a 28:05/28:30 10k like Bill Rodgers.
Tons of guys now can run low 28, Bill Rodgers today wouldn't run any faster than his 2:09 in some 4%'s.
