I agree, he has broken the marathon into a new territory.
He is a global sporting superstar.
Maybe not that well known, but in track circles, I think everyone knows who he is.

You mean the circles a few guys run around while everybody else is off doing something else?
Here is the problem with the marathon as "THE event" in the sport- Kipchoge was very popular for a couple weeks. People have forgotten him now.
They can on;y run 2 marathons a year.
Imagine of football teams played two games a year? No one would know Tom Brady.
I really wish the half marathon was the signature event- multiple races lends itself to a Marathon Majors type thing that can be in the public eye more often.
I don’t understand the point you are making. Only someone extremely dense thinks that Kipchoge or at least his performance in Vienna was not internationally recognised.
Everyone in the world knows this it was a world famous event watched by millions and talked about by billions. It really really does not need you to bang the drum at all. What is the point of this post?

Try asking the person next to you (who isn't a running buddy) by Christmas what the "sub-2" was. While you are about it you might ask them the capital of Mali.
