You can take cheserek off the list as "being in the mix" as Verzbicas raced him several times and crushed him each time.
You know they were different ages, right? Verzbicas was 2 grades above Ches. Verzbicas beat him by 2 seconds when Verzbicas was a senior and Ches a sophomore at both NXN and in the NBIN 2-mile. Then Verzbicas graduated and Ches won 2 FL titles and I don't think he lost above a mile for the rest of his HS career.
