Just picked up Running the Dream. It seems like a weird concept for a book, but t it piqued my interest nonetheless.

No, I live in Richmond, VA, not far from you! I'm away from running lit right now, although I'm writing two books where running is a minor theme for the characters. I'm reading Babbit by Sinclare Lewis (1920). Very interesting and supposedly one of the best books of all time. He won a Nobel prize after its publishing. The main character seems a lot like our fearless leader. I picked it up at my local Little Library while on a walk.
I've read the Parker series and lots of other running fiction. My two favorites, by far, are The Other Kingdom by Victor Price, and The Champion Maker by Kevin Joseph.
Somewhere I have:
Self-Made Olympian by Ron Daws
Running to the Top by Arthur Lydiard
Always Young bio on George Young
Tale of the Ancient Marathoner: Jack Foster's Own Story
This Running Life by Dr George Sheehan
Duel in the Sun
Daniels Running Formula
Lore of Running
Better Training for Distance Runners

Ah, cool. I assumed the 218 referred to the Northern MN area code, but I was wrong (maybe 2:18 marathon time...if so, nice!)
RE: running books:
I recently read and really enjoyed What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami (have really enjoyed some of his novels, not all, but many).
LOL, yes I was prevented from responding to the old name so I shortened. 2:18 is my marathon time and I guess 10th grade 880 (yards). I drew from the '84 OT for some of the story in Racing Shadows. Just read a good running book, Bobby Hodges bio, Tales of the Times. Reads like your talking to him at the Elliott Lounge in Boston, back in the day.
