Racing in the Rain
Once a Runner - best running novel by far
Again to Carthage
Running with the Buffaloes
The Olympian - its a rather dark novel about elite running in the 60s
Pain - novel about an alcoholic elite D1 runner, pretty good
The Self Made Olympian - Ron Daws part autobiography, part self coaching guide
Ron Daws coaching guide - its aimed at beginners but explains lydiard pretty well.
Daniels Running Formula - its good for someone just starting out or who needs a very specific schedule
Chasing Ghosts - its a B level running novel, somewhat inspirational, supposedly if you live in Philly, its pretty cool
I had and sold the Other Kingdom by some Irish guy. Its about an Irish sub 4 miler trying to take it to the next level. It was alright.
Running to the Top - Lydiard. Its a jumbled mess of different Lydiard ideas. I would not reccommend basing a training program off of it.
Marathon: Clarence De Mar Autobiography. Very cool book. An American runs pretty serious mileage and trains in the UK mostly.
Life at These Speeds - novel about a high schooler overcoming tragedy and retreating into high mileage running. Some guy who's claim to fame was playing a teenage mutant ninja turtle turned it into a bad movie.
The Greatest: Haile Gebreselassie biography - very cool, but it ends late in his career, before he moved to the marathon, so its incomplete.
Pre - Tom Jordan. Very cool book by someone who knew Prefontaine. Captures his spirt and his career very well. Better than either of the movies.
Becky Wade runs the world - bad book by a cool chic. Who knew you could make travelling around the world and running in cool places seem boring.
The Perfect Mile - author highlights the competition to run sub 4 between Landry and Bannister and throws in Wes Santee, an American too.
Born to Run - I got it for Christmas a couple years back and haven't read it. I doubt I ever find the time. Maybe I'll take it with me when I go on vacation sometime.
Racing Weight - Fitzgerald. The premise is basically to eat healthy. He's got some weird ideas like weighing less during your competitive phase even though you're running less mileage. The chart and food guide are good, got some good recipes in the back.
Run fast eat slow cook book - pretty good, but I've found I need to make a trip to the store just about everytime I want to make something out of here
Duel in the Sun - explores the Boston marathon race between Salazar and Beardsley (sp) and their careers leading up to it. Beardsley's training and career is particularly inspirational.
Unbroken - good historical book about a guy who competed in the olympics and also became a Japanese POW. Better than the movie.
Jock - I just started it. Its about a guy who ran for Stanford. Autobiographical. He won his first race in a real good time for a frosh. I'm not far in.
Breaking stride - hs sports story about a couple guys running mega mileage in hopes of winning state. I liked it.
That's everything I can think of. I'm not at home, so I can't check my collection, but I might have a couple more. If anybody wants a review of the above let me know and I can prob write a little more. Also interested in expanding my collection if I'm missing any must haves.
