Lydiard
lydiard is not one thing.
snell, walker, quax, dixon, viren, vassla, and others did variants that were very different.
snell himself skipped some long slow distance to get better quality
lydiard changed the system quite a bit.
long slow distance could mean 5 minute miles on grass hills.
then there was the bounding and hill sprint stages that went by the way side, in certain translations of the method.
in the end you had 10 weeks moderate to hard runs of eighty to one hundred miles per week.
followed by seventy to ninety miles of moderate pace mileage and quality work at one to two miles, with some intervals.
followed by some moderate intervals and increasing quality and then prep races.
the weakness in lydiard is that it catered to 350 mile and 144 800m and soso 5000m times.
the advance was peter coe.
still cerutty and lydiard were the geniuses.
al sal is a good one for the advance. though he needs a punch in the mouth.
