No wonder they are not doing well in the 5000. looking at that picture looks like they had to bring in a couple of white guys to lead their runs.

I feel like Ferlic is smart enough to know that's it's cheaper than Europe and what the benefits are in terms of time zone/altitude/training partners/heat acclimation which leaves it to a doping comment or a why aren't you in the US comment (maybe heightened because Ferlic doesn't think he's a true American?).
I dunno, why go on there and write that at all. I don't think Chelimo is tight with Ferlic. I think it's supposed to come across as some sort of a criticism.
Poor Ferlic. He's been quite frustrated at not breaking out and not coming close to make the US Team for Doha and hasn't PR'd in the Steeple since 2016. Maybe he's close to hanging 'em up and spending too much time on social? Interesting, he's one of these guys that never really improved in his career, just stagnated.

Oh look another nobody taking shots at a medalist while other nobodies shoehorn in some drama.
I have actually always wondered who pays for the athletes to fly all over the country and world to train? Very few (if any) runners make enough money to afford to live in Park City or Saint Moritz for months at a time. I also can’t imagine any of them make enough to pay rent/mortgage on a primary residence in Portland, for example, and to rent places for short term stretches. Or does Nike pay for their big groups to make training trips? I assume the meet organizers and sponsors pay for travel all over Europe for the track circuit? Who pays for massage therapists and physical therapy? If none of these expenses are paid for, easy to imagine almost all athletes in the sport barely break even.
Y’all are a bunch of drama queens trying to read too much into what is likely just a statement out of curiosity. If my brother posted a picture on Instagram from Kenya I’d probably ask him why he was there as well (after I asked him why he has an Instagram account, and why I wondered to myself why I’m on such a website).
Wait a moment - I thought all these ex-pat Kenyans who prove the natural genetic superiority of the East African never went back 'home' to train? Hmmm....

Please show where anyone has said that.

Well, I guess you thought wrong. Athletes of East African descent train in various locations, just like athletes of non-East African descent.
More like every pathetic country just fast tracks fast foreigners into their country .. Qatar, Bahrain, ... USA.
Keep in mind Ferlic observed these guys and their team dynamic at World XC, as the other six guys were former Kenyans under Simmons. Perhaps it was some mounting frustration and/or curiosity, as in noticing that these guys regularly go back to Kenya for long training camps, when they’re “based” in Colorado. Seems like a genuine reason to view regular training camps (and the associated logistical challenges/burden compared to Colorado) in Kenya as odd. This isn’t a one-off-because-it’s-in-Doha thing.
Also, remember when Scott Simmons told the LRC Podcast that it was crazy to think that these guys would dope because the USOC is in their backyard in Colorado Springs?
lolz this is the equivalent of a jv guy telling the #1 guy on varsity that he needs to go faster on his easy run or adjust his training in some way. Ferlic is done needs to run faster or shut up no reason to criticize chelimo

Pretty much. Dude makes an offhand comment that both he and Chelimo have probably forgotten about by now, and LRers want to make a big deal about it.

Kenya same time zone as Doha and a five hour direct flight from Nairobi.
That’s your answer Mason. As well, Kenya is A LOT cheaper than St Moritz
+2. Nailed it. Cheap, close, heat, altitude.
You can find all those things except the 5hr flight in the US or Europe this time of year. The real answer is crappy doping controls is what Mason is calling out.
Didn't Chelimo say earlier this year that he was having difficulty training at home, because he was also responsible for taking care of his newborn child while his wife worked, and that he went to Kenya some to get in quality training with minimal distractions?
Didn't Chelimo attribute his poor form and racing earlier in the year because he to had to sneak in a run each day after his wife got back from work?
I love it when LRC sees an Instagram comment and tries to take it up a notch to something as serious as racism or a doping accusation. I just love it.
Ferlic does not own a home in Michigan.
All the Colorado Springs based athletes own homes.
Thats all I'm saying.
Except that canova believes that altitude around the equator is better than altitude in the north or southern hemispheres
They own homes because they are given a housing stipend by the Army to do NOTHING BUT RUN. They have to show up on base for 15min per week. Yours (and Mason Ferlic's) taxpayer dollars are paying for them to train and then show up at every race with prize money that could support other runners.
I could understand WCAP getting behind 4-5 naturalized athletes + 4-5 american born athletes for ONE single full team of athletes...but come on they have 20+ foreign athletes right now. Some of those athletes absolutely respect the US and the opportunity being given, others for sure just want to make $$.
Mason is a guy who could start a career, easily make $150k starting per year, and have a family. He has chosen to forgo this and pursue a dream of running for his country. It is understandable that he might take exception to those who abuse opportunities and not contribute back to US running.
Mason is by far the cutest American steepler. He can say whatever he wants as far as I’m concerned.
The man is just trying to figure out if he can get a new hairstyle and fresh cut down in Kenya...
