so, when you're mentoring business people, do you tell them that it's okay if they make up stuff? you know, like when doing their accounting?
Of course not! What a silly suggestion! (And if you knew anything about business coaching, you wuld know that we don't 'tell' people what to do.)
You, Sir, may choose to disregard them, but they certainly existed. In 1954 I was a field and track school athlete (high jump was my forte, though) and I don't think any of our times, jumps, etc. were officially recorded, nor were any of the local events' scores recorded beyond the local organization level in adult athletics, either. Considering that local amateur organizations exist all over the world, there must be far more local amateur times for the mile than all the official records combined.
Can you confirm that none of these milers ever ran the mile in under 4 minutes?
MANY TIMES EVEN TODAY DO NOT GET RECORDED OR LOGGED, EVEN WITH THE INTERNET AS A TOOL. THATS BECAUSE YOU CANT LOG AND RECORD EVERY TIME AND PERFORMANCE THAT EXIST. MY 4:44.6 MILE RUN BACK IN 1984 IN A FROSH-SOPH HS DUAL MEET DIDNT GET RECORDED. BUT HAD I RUN A 3:59.3, OR EVEN A 4:03.5 TIME, IT WOULD BE NEWS. SO IF A TIME IS FAST ENOUGH, OR A JUMP IS LONG ENOUGH, A THROW FAR ENOUGH, ETC, THEN THE MARK WILL BE MADE KNOWN TO THE LITTLE WORLD THAT IS CALLED TRACK AND FIELD. IF SOMEONE RAN A SUB-4 MILE IN SOME SMALL MEET WHERE THE TIME DIDNT GET RECORDED, WELL THE STORY OF THAT TIME WOULD GET OUT. IT WOULDNT GO UNNOTICED, IT WOULD SPREAD. FURTHERMORE, WHOEVER DID IT WOULD BE A RUNNER THAT PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT AND FOLLOWED, HE WOULD HAVE POSTED OTHER IMPRESSIVE MARKS EITHER PRIOR TO OR AFTER HIS SUB-4. HE WOULDNT HAVE JUST SHOWED UP AND RAN A SUB-4 AND THEN NEVER SHOWED UP AGAIN. AND IF THAT DID HAPPEN, IT WOUILD BE AN EVEN BIGGER STORY.
