In this very thread I argued against student loan forgiveness several months ago. I've changed my tune. Every big bank gets bail outs. Farmers get endless bailouts. We still have troops in Germany 70 years after WWII. The economy gives 'perks' to people for many types of activity, including homeowners who get mortgage deduction breaks and property owners who can depreciate and write off costs. Boat owners, aircraft owners, everybody who can lobby gets a break. Pure fvcking corruption.
Our students are handed tens of thousands of dollars but there are no allowances for the ones who will fail in their 'life business' venture. Business owners can write off MUCH cost and depreciation AND can walk away through bankruptcy if the business falls apart, which MOST of them do. I know few affluent people anymore who don't register some sort of LLC to scam on their taxes. But we cannot allow leeway for a kid who made a bad choice in their initial 'life business' endeavor?
That's where the student loan bubble falls down for me. When the corrupt elites blocked kids from being able to discharge these garbage loans in bankruptcy, the loans became predatory IMO, and that's where the corruption and greed of the rich went too far in this scheme. Everybody wins except the student who has no path to being made whole upon failure. It's pure corruption and it's evil.
Let the rich and the banks eat some sh!t for once. Same with the banksters and dirty, corrupt politicians. Change the laws to at least allow good faith bankruptcy discharge for those former students who fall on hard times. That is the very least we can do in a country that slides slush to every rich scumbag and helps out mostly the richest when they fall down.
