Actually, I don't even like Ben True, and I don't like how he runs.

I do like Chelimo, but in this particular race, he ran like a fool.

Where was the jersey grabbing? I didn't see it unless it was right at the finish line when he sorta throws his arm up? I dunno that didn't look like a clear grab to me. He was flailing his arms and was beaten. It was unclear if he actually grabbed Lomong.

I don't think Chelimo ran a bad race. He had a plan, the same one that's worked the last two years. Take it out hard and try to break the field. If that doesn't work, fall back and let someone else do the work. He stuck to his plan. It almost worked. I don't think anyone thought Lopez Lomong would be running as well as he ran last weekend.

Lomong was just going to sit and kick the whole way.

I don't get what Kincaid did, he needed the standard, the pace was fast enough for him to get it. When he was pushed to the front he slammed on the breaks.

Anyway, all three of them beat all the smart guys that saved their energy for the end.

Seriously its not a big deal. His last race was run a bit unorthodox for the very reason we have this quote from him! He is ok running hard from the gun but if someone is literally going to run for 2nd/3rd place and USE him then they do not deserve his services. Woody did not even have the standard. He can blame himself for not getting it/ having the balls to go pace a few laps on pace when he was force fed the chance to do so.

I guarantee Chelimo gets further than Lomong in the 5,000 at Worlds...

But you have to agree that being a “smart guy” who won or got third in this specific race is less valuable than Hunter and whoever else has the standard and will get to represent the US in Doha? Hunter had to be thanking them (and Chelimo, frankly) for failing to dig in and race.

He broke them with a 60 first lap two years ago in Sacramento.

Of course he won't do that at worlds it will be a much stronger field there. He knows he can't run away from everyone there. Smart runners will adjust their tactics based on who they are racing against. Paul Chelimo is smarter than you.
