There are 3 different types of frame -
big frame - runners like Solinsky, Mottram, Purrier, True, etc.
average frame - most runners
small frame - KoKo, Jager, Kiprop, Geb, etc.
There is a test, where you use your left hands index finger and thumb to wrap it around the right wrist - if it overlaps, it indicates small frame, if it just touches, average, if the fingers don't even connect very big frame.
Why is this important? Because the ideal weight is different for each athlete based on his frame. A small framed runner needs to be 5-10 lbs below the ideal weight of an average frame runner, and a big frame runner needs to be 5-10 lbs above ideal weight.
This is absolute wrong big frames , small frame etc, it dont have any sense , the test is a nonsense. I can overlaps my index with my thumb but I m 1,75 height with 69 kg and with 8% body fat and 22,5 BMI You are talking about Solinsky big frame , ha ha ha
Solinsky had a BMI of 20 so he was perfectly fit as a distance runners . Of course he 's tall 186 cm but his weight was 72 kg. So he was very slim.
The more important value is BMI this is the true sign of which races our body could do better.
18-20 (distance runners) 21-22 (800-1500) 23-25 (sprinters)
When a runner is fit with a low body fat % and with running muscle and not body builder muscles then you ll find your BMI. And this is influenced by how big is our skeleton. I mean two people can have their skeleton that is 175 cm high. But one has very small pelvis , very small shoulder so the general volume of the skeleton is lower. Now when the skeleton will be covered by muscles and tendons , the small shoulder and pelvis, and toracic bone too will give a light body compared to another skeleton of same height but with big shoulder and pelvis. So one will have a 19 BMI while the other will have 23 BMI. So if their cardio respiratory system are good the first one will be a good distance runners while the second one a good 800 or 400 metres runner
