Anyone run at either of the D-2 powerhouse? What is the training like? Workouts? Coaches? Pros and Cons?

Adams State is located in a huge flat valley @7544' elevation. You have to drive 30min or so to get to the mountains so the area is kind of like a high desert. Western State is close to nearby mountains and the scenery is probably more spectacular.
Coach Martin (Adams) is an awesome guy who knows his stuff. There is really a tight knit family feel to the program with a lot of alumni staying in the area to train and help out with the team. They know when to have fun and when to get down to work. Training is largely strength-focused and follows the methods of Vigil. Intensity progressively increases every 3 weeks leading up to championship (85%/88%/91%/94%) Typical week in the fall is as follows:
Monday: 14-16 x 650m on grass w/ 2min rest
Tuesday: Rock Creek 10-12mi steady run uphill gaining 3000'+
Wednesday: Recovery run
Thursday: 5-6 x 1 mile at Cole Park
Friday: Recovery run
Saturday: Race or Tempo (6-10 miles)
Sunday: Long Run (14-20 miles for guys/ 12-16mi for girls)
Mileage for the guys could range from 60mpw to 110mpw depending on the athlete. Other than the hilly day, most of the runs are flat and on soft surfaces. Hope that helps.
Shut up, Jermaine Gregory.
