Should be good.
Should be good.
Why no women's distance? I guess this was why Jo Pavey was allowed to miss the trials to get a decent 5k in. Would have thought it wouldn't have been too much trouble to put on a 3k at least.
culpepper running a race? stop the presses!
i'm a bit suprised it's a 5K but i guess those are the longest races available right now.
Probably because if Fastrack are involved they don't think anything over 800 is good TV, they haven't got a clue and are slowly desroying the sport, last weeks AAA coverage, no 5k, they only showed teh fall in the steeple, 10k is now on another weekend....
Who puts the fields together in these events?? How on earth has Mcllroy got in the 800m over Tim Bayley.
Bayley's not the quickest this year - he's ranked third or fourth to Ellis etc, but he won the AAA's in his 4th 800m of the season.
Seems silly to me to ask people with little or no form to take part in the showpiece of the season!!!
Great to have Bekele in the field, Mottram's winner-instinct will get him sub-12.50. I can see Broe run 13.05ish, Hall and Dobson 13.12ish.

same goes for Thie, he got hammered at the AAAs and at 800m at the weekend (1.53) and hasn't put in a sub 3.42 all summer, yet he gets a start. If you look at the events staged they are primarly based around the British athletes capable of world class performances (of which there are a dwlindling number) and a few slect international stars on whom most of the budget must go. The only ladies event over 400m is a 1km because that is what Kelly Holmes will not lose at (so the organisers hope). Paula does not want to run, so no other distance events being staged as no other world class British runners or international stars that could be tempted. This is not true of course because Jo Pavey is world class on the track with Butler and the Yelling sisters not far off plus there is a clutch of young British girls very close to international level, but non of them will sell tickets or stop the TV audiance going to make a cup of tea (Jo Ankier aside for pure eye candy).
Therefore, fast track put on races for stars to sell tickets and TV rights and make them money and add a few token Brits to show they are aiding the development of the sport, trouble is, they again try to go for 'names' they think people will have heard of and those with the best agents who will only let the stars in their stable run if a few others of their lesser lights are also given a number
Stephen Hepples?
James Thie?
McIllroy?
Rwalinson?
don't really understand how these poeple get in...
Happens everywhere. Spots are always given to locals.
Because when you host a meet you can fill the spots with people from your home country, just like you will see people in GL events from the country that is hosting, the 10.3 hundred guys in the final, 13:30 5k guys ...
Guys...check out Bislet...guess who's in that race as well. Mr Culpepper in the 5k...he's probably over there with his wife and decided what the heck.

or his contract mentions that he needs to, you know, race every once in a while.
finaly the us is sending its best runners over to race in Europe. This is awesome.
Any word on when Goucher is going to run this 5k he is talking about?
I would like to see him race the people that beat him a few weeks ago head-to-head. Then, no matter the outcome there is need for little senseless debate on this message board. He is running well over the 3k distance right now.
heusden.

Possibly...but when was the last time he ran 2 5k's in europe. Don't think too hard on that one it's never happened i believe. Anyone think he might have a 10k lined up in August on the track for a crack at a good time? He must beleive he's in pretty good shape to enter these races...if he's not he'll get embarrassed. Hope he runs a fast time in one of them, then runs a pr in the 10k in august.
well, i'm not disagreeing that he's over there with his wife. i'm just saying that he's racing on the track because his contract likely states he needs to race on the track a few times a year. considering he didn't run nationals and won't be running at the world championships/olympics, he perhaps needed to get out there and fulfill his obligations. i dunno how good of shape he would be for a 5K considering his focus is the marathon now. and i have no idea where one would find a track 10K in august (outside of helsinki).
Quite an intriuging 1500 meters...

Kipchoge in a 1500 vs. Lagat...and heck, Webb should be right up there. I guess this makes up for the 1500 at the Kenyan Championships that Eliud was prevented from running.
Also, this race will probably be the last chance for Lukezic and Myers to nab the A standard.
Is this a US will win this little war against UK at 1500.
McCormick will run 3.35
Brussels might be the only classy 10k race outside of Helsinki remaining this summer, I think that's in late August. Outside of Brussels, there probably isn't another 10k that will be run at a pace where he could pr
