Why not? Her father is a climber too.
What I can't believe is, that parents leave their kids at home and make them obese.

Are her parents nuts what?
Stay in your lane, my friend. I police apostrophe misuse around these parts, and there’s nothing to see, here.
What she and parents did was so cool but they king of ruined it by going public with it. Can't anybody enjoy something nowadays without showcasing the darn thing. Boasting never cool and the attention craving is what could rob the girl of the all the fun......
Kids don't have ego problems but parents often do.
Thanks Alex and other poster loved this
Agreed with you.

Couldn't you say the same about running. We are just collecting medals.
Good ol' trolls trolling trolls. Wigins is at least better at it than B-Bread.
MYOB, hobby poster!
not all of us accept finisher medals. They are basically a cheap substitute for the shirts you used to get without paying extra.
Running is a sport because it tests a real world basic athletic skill, namely running.

A I did some multi-pitch climbing once upon a time... I think this is not a good move.
B ...Experienced climbers like Lynn Hill have gotten sloppy for a second and taken 100-foot falls. No 10-year old has the experience and judgment to handle the decision-making demands of a big wall like El Cap.
C. You may say, But she's roped up the whole time. Great, so she's top-roping El Cap. Adults are helping her simulate the experience of climbing El Cap, but she's not a full member of the team. She's just along for the ride...

D. You don't get that kind of experience by the age of 10. On a big wall, if a piece of protection pops out in the wrong place on a fall, you can swing out into space and be left dangling in your harness.
You sir, are impressively uninformed (or simply on the low end of the IQ spectrum).
A- Wow, impressive. I'll be in the Valley friday-monday, please stop by and impress me with your mad skillz, yo.
B- I know Ms Hill and I will ask her to fact check this thread, after you post evidence of her 100ft whippers from being lazy on the Captain.
C- Have you read any account of the climb? She LED two sections. Fine, only 2/31 pitches, BUT SHE STILL LED, YA DUMBFLUK. "just along for the ride" my a$$... you're truly a moran, or a fine troll.
D- From the Outside article (re: her dad): "Mike owns Glenwood Climbing Guides, where he teaches ice climbing, sport climbing, and vertical self-rescue." Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's taught her plenty about how to keep calm and bail her partners out if/when they get into a bad spot. Also, please point out which pitches have features that will have the leader "dangling...in space"??? I'll be anxiously awaiting your very educated reply.
Thank you for your inquiry. Here is a link, among many easily found, about Lynn Hill forgetting to tie a knot correctly and taking a 60-foot fall. Sorry, I was going from memory when I said 100. Please pass on my apologies to Ms. Hill when you talk to her.
http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/1359870/Check-Your-Knot-More-AccidentsI have years of professional experience in a number of responsibilities that I do not entrust to my 10-year old because any observer would recognize that as monstrously irresponsible, no matter how experienced I am and no matter how much my son would enjoy them.
Some people's "irresponsibility" is other's living. It is sad we live in such a time that the most cautious among us think they have the right to decide what is safe for everyone else.
