Of course it’s important. But I’ve never heard anyone argue that New York is a better place to run than the Bay Area.
i'd guess that there is pretty significantly higher running talent, across all age groups in NYC vs. SF. I'm almost sure there are a lot more competitive runners in NYC, regardless of speed.
I don't know that for a fact - just a guess.
Why so many fast people in NYC? Partly numbers -a lof of people live there. But also because NYC is a pretty good place to run.
I suppose the tradeoff is whether you value the better teams and competition of NYC or the better weather in SF.
If you want to drive from NYC or SF there are good places to run in both so that cancels out.
