They are losing subscribers because there is not a big market for their studio shows; maybe that is politics but I think mostly people are just not that in to sports. Not enough people care beyond the game to tune in.
I do not have ESPN, but I really like ESPN+ (which I subscribe to). Personally, I get:
2-3 games a month of the out of market baseball team I am a fan of.
Lots of soccer content; I watch the nearby USL team's games on it but they also carry top tier Euro leagues (Bundesliga, most notably I think) and some MLS games.
College track & field and cross country! If I can't get NCAA's live I can get it delayed, but they also carry a lot of conference meets. They do a good job producing the Power 5 (and surprisingly the Sun Belt) meets they carry, unless the distance race is a runaway. The production for the numerous mid major meets like HEPS, OVC, CUSA, Atlantic Sun and even the MEAC is lower quality or non existent (sometimes just a live camera view) and makes me think the individual conferences are responsible for production, but you can still watch the meet.
They carry a lot of college football and basketball on there, but Power 5 games on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU are not available, so it is great if you are a fan of a non big time DI conference.
I occasionally watch a 30-for-30.
I don't watch the studio shows.
