I also have this regret. The way I try and compensate is by pushing twice as hard in training now, you know... to make up for all the training I should have been doimg years ago.

Maybe if you started running earlier you could be declining/struggling with injuries now. Who knows. At least you are fresh now and can improve. You could be a successful masters runner in the future. At least that is what I say to myself. When I'm a master I expect to be faster than I am now.
you are IN HIGH SCHOOL, meaning you are 18 or younger. THAT IS YOUNG. You have all the time in the world. Shut up, get out of your head, and go for a run. STOP STRESSING, YOU ARE DOING GREAT
Steve Jones didn't start training seriously till he joined the Royal air force.
If you started earlier you could have become like most Letsrun posters. Bullet dodged I think.
I started running at age 33 and realized I could have done this as a middle/high school sport. And who knows? Maybe I could have gotten a scholarship if I loved it then as much as I do now.
You overcome that regret by realizing that you're still really young and are still technically in the "earlier" stage of your life.
Quit running dude and get into Crossfit. Be a real man!!!!
You're in high school and you have your whole running prime ahead of you but have regret about not running for your freshman and sophomore year? Get over it and focus on the time ahead. 10 years from year you won't give a crap you didn't run your freshman and sophomore years of high school.
Toughen up. Quenton Cassidy did fine.
You will never get over this. I would recommend that you start a new sport like Curling.
