Guy is undoubtedly one of the greatest runners in history. Only man to defend his 1500 gold medal. Only man to hold all four middle-distance WRs at the same time. Holder of one of the most incredible WRs in history - his 800m, which makes him still the 3rd fastest man in the event nearly 40 years later with all the improvements in tracks, shoes, and of course the EPO era. He basically ushered in the professional era, turned athletics into one of the most popular sports - especially in Europe - and his titanic duel with Steve Ovett in Moscow remains one of the most iconic in sporting history.
Credited with winning the 2012 Olympic bid for London, and then delivers one of the most successful Games in history.
Now in his role as IAAF chief, he is almost single handedly in the entire world of sport it seems, facing up to the transgender dilemma and taking a very tough but brave and necessary stand.
Is on his way it seems also to achieving what many say is impossible - clearing up the doping mess in athletics, banning Russia (a step almost as brave as taking on the trans lobby) and within just several years turning Kenya from a lawless doping free for all to a country where cheats are finally getting caught regularly. Hopefully Ethiopia is next.
Whether you like him as a person, it's impossible to deny that he's had a remarkable and unique life in athletics, probably even unique in any sport.
