It always amazes me how little money is required to attract (sub) elite runners. Almost anyone this side of homeless could to it if there's access to facilities.

Name says it all
I’m sure you’ll grab a Kenyan or two but a weeks notice is hard
Hi Matt,
Are you the same Matt Rainwater that competed in the CCAA when I was i college?
I'd be happy to donate $50 to increase the amount the winner gets paid out.
Hopefully some more will do the same.
Steve
Did people miss that this is in support/conjunction with the Special Olympics? Not all runners are vain assholes. There are actually runners that think this is a great idea to support a good cause, regardless of the prize money.
Boston Guy but like this idea wrote:

i probably shouldn't answer for matt, but i'm pretty sure he did race in the ccaa conference. i've coached in the same league as matt when he was coaching for brea olinda high school, and i have my athletes run the trabuco hills distance carnival every year. it's also in the evening under the lights (in late march/april), and typically 80+ % of my athletes run personal records there...
that's my story and i'm sticking to it...

figured i'd give this thread a bump now that it's been relegated a few pages deep...
i suppose if matt rainwater were really trying to market this meet on a letsrun thread, he should have had a few grammatical errors in the subject line, or maybe something about s#!++ing in a compression sock, or something mocking/supporting trump or the dow...

Friends,
Since someone asked, I did run in the CCAA in the early 2000's for Cal Poly Pomona. I also coached at South Hills High School, Castro Valley, and Brea-Olinda. Currently, I'm an Assitant Principal at Trabuco Hills High School.
I love track and field and wanted to put something special in place to provide underserved students the opportunity to compete in a well put on a meet and then see some fast times from pro runners. I've put a ton of work into this meet and look forward to the high school events on 5/11/2019. Due to low interest in the pro races, I'm not going to be able to run them this year. I appreciate the support that I got from letsrun.com in promoting the meet and those on this board.
For those of you who are familiar with Southern California running, the top competitors in the HS 4x100, 100 and 200 will move on to compete at Masters the following weekend. The vast majority of these athletes have never been given a high-level experience in athletics. Please spread the word to your neighborhood schools and ask them if they have a Unified Sports program. The HS meet is a CIF-SS Championship competition (run like an all-comers in terms of entries) and our entries are open until 5/7/2019 at 7:00 PM. Meet information can be found here.

Best of luck to Matt on this. My son ran several steeples against Matt back in the CCAA days. Nice guy, good steepler. San Diego USATF is doing a road mile on Sunday May 5. You might want to contact them about letting their participants know about another mile the following weekend. https://www.cincodemilerun.com/
Great idea to bring some exposure to the sport for high school kids. Sorry it sounds like it didn't work out this year.
