Great NYT article about Kenyan Runners
Great piece. Classic cases of limited education and sudden wealth. I know it happens (or used to happen) to NBA and NFL stars to. But things are starting to change as more people start speaking up.
“Athletes speak of male “hyenas” who show up to junior-level competitions and scout for emerging female stars, many of them still in high school. Reporting in February by The Star, a Kenyan newspaper, identified at least 16 female athletes who had lost tens of thousands of dollars worth of assets to men.”
This happens A LOT! Often truncating promising careers of young girls who aren’t used to that kind of attention.

Still a issue. Low IQ people aren't good at finances.
Medium to High IQ people are not necessarily good at finances either.

Thanks for the article. He should have invested his money by buying or starting a business like Gebrselassie and Bekele have done.
"Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot, a four-time Boston Marathon winner (who is not related to Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot), won $500,000 as the inaugural World Marathon Majors series champion. In multiple interviews, he insisted that he was living well and enjoying his treasured Dunhill cigarettes"
Ain't that a healthy retirement? (end of sarcasm)
So all the doping and cheating is for nothing in the end?
"Give me three good months, I'll be ready". Not only broke, delusional too. Better idea: finish HS and go after that criminal investigation career.

What’s it to you? It’s his money.
What is college like for Kenyans? Say like I were a pretty good Kenyan runner, but only like the 500th fastest at 5k in a given year. I'm 18. Would I try to find low key road races or go to college?

College takes money and book smarts. That's why many that do both go to the US on athletics scholarships.
Henry Rono is another example. He ended up as a car park attendant in the US.

Some know chemistry pretty well.
Henry Rono was before the sport went pro.

Recent news stories indicate otherwise, O dirty stick figure defender.
