Happy for these two guys. Great race for them and good to see American marathoners getting under 2:10. No easy task.

Major PRs for these guys. 7th place or 70th, these were impressive runs for a couple of genuine guys who work their asses off and share themselves openly with the public. Good for them.

Is 2:09 considered a good time any more? Maybe back in the 1990s . . . . .
It still is, very few elites can average 4:56/mile for a marathon. The perception is skewed now because of so many PED assisted results. I am still not convinced that any (or most) of the times at 2:04 and below being clean.

Seems kinda racist if all you need is a white guy to run it to believe it!

Yes, considering that they are clean.
How do you just pick and choose who you deem to be clean?
Are they from a country were getting EPO is as easy as getting Advil?
Are they from a country with shady testing history?
Do they have shady coaches?
Do they have shady managers?
Are they coming from a corrupt country?

I believe that the top-10 finishes in a WMM mean they are have met the Olympic criteria.
They both already did that at NYC last fall.
The qualifying window for the marathon did not open until Jan 1 of this year, so they had not. They both also ran under 2:11:30 which is the auto qualified standard. The top 10 at a WMM/World Marathon Champs, or top 5 at a IAAF Gold Label Marathon (which is why the US is petitioning to make the Marathon Olympic Trials an IAAF Gold Label Marathon) is also an auto qualifying standard regardless if the athlete runs under the standard (2:11:30 for men and 2:29:30). If an athlete doesn't have an auto qualifying time or performance, they need two performances (one has to be a marathon and the other can be from half marathon, 25k, or 30k) in order to have a world ranking. After the auto qualified spots are filled up, the rest of the spots will be taken from the world ranking list (provided that athlete is from a country that doesn't already have 3 athletes already selected).
The performances of Fauble and Ward are very good and congrats to them. But this is just a starting point for American resurgence in international the marathon. Bill Rodgers ran 2:09:27 on the same Boston course 40 years ago.

Either American (and) or white: clean.
Letsrun authors: I appreciate Jared Ward’s accomplishments. But, please, stop calling him a professor as he is an adjunct instructor with an M.S. in stats. Maybe only academics care but there is a difference.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
