It was a large race we waterfalled with probably around 15-20 kids, I knew I was in one of the slower heats so I wasn’t expecting it to go out super fast and knew I’d probably have to take the lead, I opened my first 200 in a 28 and then coach had me at a high 59 so my second 200 was around a 31.xx, and then I kicked from the 400-600m mark and come across the 600 at a 1:30-1:31, and basically held that too the finish, I felt like I had way more in me this race for some reason, I came in second to one kid who had been ahead of me the whole race I caught him at the end but he edged me out, we both ran 2:04’s, there was wind on the home stretch and it was a rainy day.
My coach also said he thought my last 200 looked really good so he said that if I had focused on running through the line rather then getting to it he thinks I comfortably could have hit that in a 2:02-2:03, he has pretty big confidence that I can break two by the end of the season. He also really wants me too, because our 4x8 currently runs a 7:58 and everyone’s starting to have some pretty big surges, and he wants us to get close to 7:50 this year and hopefully well under that next year.
