Sorry to hear this, cocoon. Get well soon. I had a bad sore throat, too, and I have done so much coughing that my abdominal muscles are sore.

This depresses me. Everyone is racing and R3 is regulated to. Hey y’all stop by and say hi.
(But when you do I will be the taller one that’s better looking and probably not wearing any sleeves)
But we will stop by and say hi!
[btw, thanks for the dinner invite, but I'm going to play it very safe with food/eating until after the 5K - you understand, given my recent issues. I will definitely swing by on Saturday, and may on Friday as well.]
If anyone's looking for me in the 5K, I'm a short woman with black hair in a pony-tail. Will be wearing black shorts and either a red sportsbra or red tank top that says Capital Area Runners on the front.
Cocoon - sorry about the ick - I hope it's a 24 hour thing.
Lots of good thoughts on this thread about how to execute. I have nothing to add. On Jot Quill's suggestion, I am going to dump off a link to a post I wrote about lessons learned from Boston 2018. This year's forecast doesn't look anywhere near as bad (knock on wood) - more like 2015, which was a pretty fast year, if uncomfortable. But still, some may find this info useful.
http://wellimtryingtorun.blogspot.com/2018/05/lessons-learned-boston-marathon-2018.htmlIn case you’re not lurking on it as I am, there are plenty of interesting Boston-related ruminations on the Sub 2h30m thread.
Unfortunately, no one has recommended going full AJ if the weather is bad.
Darkwave - I'll try to make it out to spectate the 5k. I did some cyber stalking so that I could better recognize you. Based on what I found I think we spoke to each other in the corral at CIM about sub 3 goals and how it did not feel that cold while waiting in the corral. I would have been in a blue singlet and a black knit hat. Before that it would have been some pretty hideous style wise throw aways prior to that.

Interesting - not sure it was me, though - I had a teammate who is the same height, also dark hair, and also was going for sub-3 there. We did line up in different places - she started near the 3 hour pace group, while I started behind the 3:10 pace group.
The one fairly certain thing about the weather would seem to be rain. Hence...while I am waiting the endless wait in the village, will there be any cover anywhere (tent? school? etc.) or will I be outside the whole time? Also, how long will I wait in the corral (I am in wave 1, corral 2)? Need to plan for the wet stuff...
Oh snap I'm getting 3-4MPW S/SW winds now sourced from Dark Sky, first time it's projected down to such low winds
Coach has been up all night, gettin' on Boston time. My airport transportation arrives shortly... Radio silence for the next 24 hours.

Over and out.
Have a great trip, Coach Jeff. Let us know when the eagle has landed.
In that case, it wasn't you it was your teammate. Forgot to include the detail that we were right next to the 3hr pacer. All I could remember was the red singlet with something about DC.
Smooth,
Solid coaching. I agree 100%. Def consistent effort rather than consistent time. Race conditions, topography, weather, etc. It all makes a difference. This has been my experience for Boston (and other marathons) running by feel and effort rather than forcing a certain pace.
Best of luck to everyone with the weather and the race itself. Reminder that we can always shed layers along the way...not a bad idea to wear an extra layer, or rain shell (such as a vest) and get remove, or discard at some point...
Hey all, thought if pop in to say best of luck to all the Boston runners. Hopefully the weather shakes out to be a good one and everyone knocks it out of the park.
I’ve been off running since around Christmas due to some issues and thus the hiatus from the thread. Ended up with some bad light headed episodes accompanied by some arm numbness that then morphed into some neck pain. While searching for the culprit to that ended up finding a cerebral aneurysm (oddly enough not the cause of my issues) that we need to treat. Heading back in in a couple weeks for a coil or two to be inserted and then hopefully back on the road.
I’ll definitely be tracking whoever I can on Monday. OR, I hope you have a great Boston experience!
Hey there, WH—great to see you here! Thanks for the kind words, and I will be aimimg for a full tomahawk slam in Boston.
Best of luck to everyone in Boston.
A Pappy sighting!
Good luck everyone - I have everyone old and new in the tracker app.
Weather has turned yet again, and right now it looks pretty darn good, especially if you get some light rain to offset the slightly warmer temps. That changed forecast also comes with a decent tailwind. OR, I am worried that the tailwind may blow you all the way through the finish line and into the harbor!
Very funny and LOL, Smoove. Yeah, a tailwind may blow all 5’6” 125 of me into Boston Harbor!
Going out on my last little run here in VA before leaving for Boston tomorrow...
Like Smoove, you're all in my tracker. Can't wait to follow it!!
Sub6 - I have a good friend (bib 209, about our height, navy blue vest, reddish hair/beard, called Lawrence) who ran 2:29:47 at NYC last fall. He's probably shooting for around your time and will pace it superbly I expect. Maybe a good one to look out for. Quite an upright style, 4% red flyknits.
I've also got a friend running god knows what. He was aiming for, I think, 2:39:59 but then smashed out a 72:44 at the incredibly windy Big Half a month back. I have full confidence in a 2:35. Also reddish hair/beard but my club, so red and black hooped vest.
Anyway, best of luck to everyone, forecast looking pretty good now. Really excited!
Holy crap Working Harder!!! Good to hear from you and wishing you well with your aneurysm treatment. Scary stuff.
To all the Boston peeps. Booth 426. Directly behind the big saucony booth
I did my best to scour the threads of the past to cobble this together. I've got a few question marks out there still, so I put what I believe to be the PRs and I'm making the not so bad assumption that if I couldn't find your goal, you're looking to PR.
If anyone wants to update theirs, just add on to the thread. Will be fun to track against the goals.
