I was a teammate of Michael Grabowski's back in high school, he was nothing but a team cancer and his parents enabled this. I have evidence to prove this and I will share some of many stories that I have witnessed or have heard about from many teammates in my three years that I had unfortunately had to deal with him in high school.
Lets start with my sophomore year or Michael's junior year. Michael didn't like the original XC Coach of Smithtown so his parents paid a doctor to write a note saying he doesn't have to do the coaches workouts. As a result, the coach kicked him off because he wasn't being a team player and was causing problems detrimental to team chemistry since he was also a bully who always put teammates down. His mother came to practice the next day and screamed at the coach and threatened to sue the school. He and his parents (aka his psychotic mother) then tried to split up the combined XC program and pay the AD to do so. It wasn't until many people rallied up against the team cancer, his mother, and an AD who was paid off by the mother to stop the Grabowski's for the moment.
Fast forward a couple of months, Smithtown has a new XC coach and a talented squad. We ended up dropping the last dual meet of the year (which doesn't mean anything since you can still win the county/section without being league champions) and Michael did what he did best, He didn't try to encourage people and say lets bounce back, he decided to call out a few teammates and say that we were the reason we lost, that we are complete garbage, and we don't deserve to be anywhere near our varsity 7 for the rest of the season. His actions over the next few days, like openly trying to get me kicked off the team because I stood up for myself when he tried to sh*t on my life (which lead to his mother going off on me and my family), lead to our coach somewhat giving up on him a little bit and suspended him before a big meet because of it. He originally wanted Grabowski gone but he threatened to sue again so they settled on the suspension. After that things sort of cooled off, the kids he said were "complete garbage" ended up becoming all county and helped secure Smithtown's first of three XC county titles in a row.
As winter and spring came around he continued to bully his own teammates. He would tell some kids who were borderline varsity/kids trying to get in shape to quit the team because they were useless and not cut out for it. There was one kid who was not that good at first, a bit chunky, but he came to practice every day and worked hard until he made varsity until his senior year. Grabowski would often tell the kid he was in the wrong sport and he should just go be a thrower where kids like him belong.
Mike didn't just bully kids who were not the "top guys", he bullied everyone. I was one of Grabowski's favorite targets and he would often talk about me behind my back to some of my good friends on the team. He was afraid of me because he saw the writing on the wall that I was coming for his spot as "top dog" and that I had a lot of potential and could become better than him despite being a year younger. There were also kids who were even younger than me who had more potential than both of us and he felt threatened so he would say stuff to try and put us down. He often said I was never going to be good, that I was a pansy, and kids like me will never run at a high level in High School or even run at a junior college because I wasn't him. It hurt me that he said that but I knew it wasn't true since I was second best to him all sophomore and the majority of junior year.
Spring of his senior year was where it got ugly. It started one day when we were doing 400m repeats, the kid was mad because everyone was going faster than him and he wasn't leading the rep as me and a sophomore teammate was leading the reps. He got so mad he started yelling at all of us to get out of lane 1 because we were "ruining" his workout even though we were all doing the workout AS A GROUP!! He then decided to shove the sophomore teammate to the ground at about 100m to go and when the rep was over he began to scream at the kid calling him "f*cking retarded" and "a waste of f*cking space" amongst the many names he called the kid during the rest. Our coach stepped in and tried to tell Grabowski he was wrong for doing that and he should apologize. Mike freaked out and accused the coach for trying to bully him.
You think this can't get any worse, please hold my drink I have one last story that is definitely the "Grandaddy of them All". If you ask Mike what happened with why he was a no show at the spring edition of the "Section XI Division Championship", where he was the defending 3200m and 3000m steeplechase champion, He would say "I had a bad case of allergies and I felt like it wasn't that important so I decided to sit out." But by now you should know, that was in fact a lie. What happened was he missed the meet because of a dispute with a teammate because of course it freaking was! What happened was a teammate of Grabowski and Grabowski himself wanted to ask the same girl to Senior Prom. The teammate beat Mike to it and the girl accepted the offer from the teammate. Grabowski was furious and began to lash out on the teammate for how he wasn't "as good looking as him" to keep it short (Mike also claimed he was the most attractive runner in our section, pretty funny if you ask me). He then texted the team group chat with what the Smithtown kids now know as the "some of y'all are bad teammates" text where he said we were bad teammates and he is happy that he will be across the country in a few months and not deal with our bs, He then texted a few others that he would no show divisions to prove a point to everyone on the team that we won the first two (Cross and Indoor) because of him and that this was "the last straw" and "this is why you don't f*ck with me." Basically, he said that we bullied him so much and with that teammate "stealing" his prom date that he would screw everyone over by making sure we don't win our third team county title in a row by "no-showing" the meet. This was such a coward move by Michael and it showed me that he was a bit of a hypocrite for what he said to me back during Cross season. I'll never forget this meet because it was a huge meet for me as an individual because I showed everyone I was faster than he was and I became the thing Mike feared. All my other teammates also had big days and we all seemed to have a reason to compete, it was contagious and we won the meet WITHOUT MIKE. He responded by criticizing many of the teammates and claiming "it was a fluke" and telling me personally that "You will never be sh*t, I am still the best. You still won't go to a d3 school because you are still garbage." Michael only had 3 or 4 D1 Scholarships, not 20. I had 3 d1 coaches already contacting me at this point. Anyways, back to the major part of the story. The Following Monday, our coach had informed Michael he knew everything and that he was no longer a member of Smithtown's track team because of his actions and he had to find a new coach. Michael freaked out on the coach and once again said the coach was bullying him and that the teammates were bullying him too, which is not true. Michael then called his mom who came down to the track and began yelling at the coach and threatened to sue the coach and the school for "everything they got" since they "bullied" their son. The mom listed many names, including mine, saying that we bullied Mike despite the fact that she was well aware that we were bullied by her son numerous times and no one liked him because of it. That was the last I would hear from Mike for awhile. He would come back a year later to visit only to call me a f*ggot and a pansy for telling Mike to kindly piss off and leave us alone as he is no longer welcome here. He kept going and It was pretty bad until another coach came over and asked him to leave.
In the end, I feel that Michael Grabowski, his Psychotic mother and their puppet of a lawyer are just telling lies to hide the fact that their kid is washed up, not performing, never on scholarship, and was being a team cancer again and gave the coaching staff no choice but to kick him off. I really hope that others come out and tell their stories about him and just further prove that he isn't the innocent victim in this situation, he is the abuser.
