1:30 for spring Flying Pig or Cap City?

Ran 1:39 flat at Cbus half this past fall on 35 mpw max. Should I stack up to 55 during my 8-12 week cycle? Ran 10-11 mi. long runs fairly easily during my training. Some hills, no speedwork.

1:45 in fall 2017 (very hot, no experience and 25 mpw).

1:39 in fall 2018 (not bad, not great)

Goal 1:30 for spring 2019 (?) at Flying Pig or Cap City.

Ran in HS, then took time off, then started back a few years ago.

When I ran my 1:39 I wasn't out of breath at the end--I recovered fast. I probably could have pushed it and gotten 1:37 if I really tried.

Long-term goal: Boston, 3:10 or bust. I'm 35 so as I age the brackets become favorable. But that's more a 2021-2022 goal. Maybe do my first 'thon in fall 2019.

The Flying Pig has a 300-ft climb miles 6-9. I'm guessing Cap City is flatter than that, so if you're really aiming to knock 9 minutes off your PB, that might be the way to go.

Go Cap City. Flying Pig is going to be slower. Maybe a few more people to run with, but not a faster course.

I have done both. If I remember correctly, there is around 3 continuous miles of gradual uphill starting somewhere around mile 5 in the Flying Pig half. You do get a great view when you get to the top then the last 3 miles are a gradual downhill. Cap City is much flatter. I guessing you did the Nationwide half in the fall (2017 was hot as well as 2016). If you are going for time, do Cap City. If you want to run somewhere different, run the Pig.

I agree that of the two Cap City will be faster if you can work your way toward the front for the start.

If you were ready mid April rather than waiting for May, I would suggest the Athens Half Marathon in Athens, OH -- out and back on a mostly flat bike trail.
