With the last meet before conference now over, I thought it would be neat to look back to the first MIAC prediction and see if anything’s changed.
Looks like the 600 has been completely mixed up, with Brian Carl being a complete dark horse.
Kozlowski is looking like a winner in the 800
The1k could be a combination of Wachter, Mueller, Wilkinson, or Kozlowski ftw.
The mile is in the hands of Mueller, Wilkinson, or Wachter (but could also depend on who runs the 5k instead).
The 3k has Mueller, Wachter, Dodge, and Wilkinson all in the running. I think this race might come down to who’s the most fresh.
5k will probably be miscounted again and Lerdall FINALLY broke 15:00!
This year, of the years I’ve been around, seems to be the hardest to determine who’s racing what distances. Many front runners have good marks in a variety of distances
Best guess without knowing who's in the heats
600m
1. Carl Klamm Bethel
2. Joey Cook-Gallardo Carleton
3. Brian Carl St. Thomas
800m
1. Carl Kozlowski St. Thomas
2. Jesse Middendorf Concordia
3. Evan Hatton Bethel
1000m
1. Carl Kozlowski St. Thomas
2. Sean Lonergan St. Olaf
3. Frank Gustafson Hamline
Mile
1. Matthew Wilkinson Carleton
2. Lucas Mueller Carleton
3. Karl Wachter St. Thomas
3000m
1. Lucas Mueller Carleton
2. Karl Wachter St. Thomas
3. Matthew Wilkinson Carleton
5000m
1. Tris Dodge Carleton
2. Thomas Lerdall St. Olaf
3. James Mathison St. Johns
* Don't think Mueller or Wilkinson will be in the 5k
DMR
1. Carleton
2. Hamline
3. St. Thomas
They are up! Should be a very fun indoor conference meet. Every event seems to be very stacked. RBJ finally posted them!
For the first time in quite a while, it looks like the 3k will be the main event. The Carls vs Wachter have never raced this distance against each other.
Also surprised to see Wilkinson in the 5k instead of the mile, but I guess he has to defend the title. I’ll take Lerdall ftw tho
Thought I'd throw together some predictions. Should be a fun one this year!
400
Carl Klamm
Isaac Erickson
Cal Wright
Bethel’s 400 guys are always well-prepared for conference. Guys on the rise like Wright, Labine, and Collison will be fun to watch, and there’s no denying Kulstad’s talent and past success (2018 Outdoor 4th place finisher). He could sneak into the top 3 or 4 from his 10th seed.
600
Carl Klamm
JCG
Brian Carl
The top 6 finishers from last year are gone, but 2016 and 2017 champ and MIAC record holder in the event Klamm is the favorite. JCG and newcomer Brian Carl will make this one interesting. Brian Carl is the only of the top 8 seeds not entered in an open event Friday, and could challenge for the win if he’s fresh, though I assume he’s in the DMR.
800
Carl Kozlowski
JCG
Evan Hatton
Kozlowski is certainly the one to beat, and I don’t think anyone will get that close. JCG and Hatton have the experience, and should run well enough to get top 3. Will be interesting to see what underclassmen Middendorf, Roen, and Johnson can do. Very possible either Karlson or Lelinga gets top 5 from the second heat.
1000
Carl Kozlowski
Lucas Mueller
Sean Lonergan
It won’t be as exciting as Tostrud, but this one will be fun to watch. Tough to root against last year’s champ, but Kozlowski looks very strong right now. Especially if Lonergan has a mile and DMR leg in his legs, the door is open for Hatton or Gustafson to take 3rd.
Mile
Lucas Mueller
Karl Wachter
Frank Gustafson
It’ll be interesting to see how tactical this one will be with everyone fresh. Knowing Lucas Mueller, though, it probably won’t be. Tactical or not, Wachter and Gustafson can certainly run with Mueller. From there it’s more of a toss-up: who knows what we’ll get from Anderson and Lonergan, who haven’t seemed quite themselves this year. Biel Wiel looked impressive last week, he may be able to drop a few seconds a snag a top 3 finish.
3k
Lucas Mueller
Karl Wachter
Matt Wilkinson
Mueller won’t hold anything back, even in what will likely be his 4th race of the weekend. Wachter will hang with him and make it more interesting than last year. I’ll take Wilkinson over Dodge and Lerdall to finish strong and take 3rd.
5k
Tris Dodge
Matt Wilkinson
Thomas Lerdall
The winners of the last two years will be going at it, but I think Dodge has a great opportunity to get his first MIAC championship. Don’t count Meikle out either, he seems to have carried some momentum from a great cross season into indoor.
DMR
Carleton
St. Olaf
St. Thomas
Always a hard one to predict without entries, this is assuming stacks.
Heard it here first, Team Carl/Karl wins every event 400m-3k.
400:
1. Carl Klamm
2. Shawn Monroe
3. Isaac Erickson
Get out yer brooms cause its a Bethel sweep.
600:
1. Carl Klamm
2. Brian Carl
3. JCG
Klamm wins easy, but Brian CARL is sneaky good.
800:
1. Carl Kozlowski
2. Evan Hatton
3. Ben Roen
Kozlowski in another class right now and wins comfortably. Hatton gets 2nd with Roen, who is hot right now, taking bronze.
1k:
1. Carl Kozlowski
2. Lucas Mueller
3. Frank Gustafson
2-man race between Kozlowski/Mueller- rivaling the epic DCG/Coffey showdown a few years back. Frank's stache takes 3rd.
Mile:
1. Karl Wachter
2. Lucas Mueller
3. Sean Longeran
Wachter finally faces competition and shows how good he is. Race for 3rd is close, but Lonergan outkicks Gustafson and others.
3k:
1. Karl Wachter
2. Matt Wilkinson
3. Lucas Mueller
Wachter shows the world he is the real deal and Carleton goes 2-3. This may be the race of the weekend.
5k:
1. Cameron Meilke
2. Matt Wilkinson
3. Thomas Lerdall
Upset alert: Cammy wins with teammate Matty in 2nd. Lerdall gets Olaf on the board in 3rd.
DMR:

2. UST
3. SJU
Toss-up.

Fastfinishresults sucks and needs to stop having dead live results links. They have never successfully kept a live scoreboard while also offering the results of previous events.
The stream is working well.

If you put Karl Wachter, Carl Kozlowski, and Carl Klamm on their own team, they out-score St.Olaf, Hamline, Concordia, Saint Mary’s, and Augsburg... Big oof

Did the Carleton guys just disappear?
If this guy is right I'll crap my knickers the center st.thomas' football field. Also *Barnhart
Barndaddy had a nasty race. I only like people who have nasty races!
Dude, tommies have always kicked aaaahs for track, but dang. Distance is really cranking. Lots of huge jumps in the last 12 months. Exciting to see what’s to come for some of those guys
According to credible sources, following Lucas Muellers performance at MIACS, the NCAA called into question the validity of his results and performed a drug test. Upon inspection, it was determined that Lucas had illegal amounts of Ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) in his system at the time of competition. This chemical is predominantly found in Mayonnaise and, when consumed in large amounts, has performance enhancing benefits. Therefore, the NCAA formally revoked Lucas Mueller’s MIAC Championship titles and withdrew his remaining eligibility in NCAA athletics.
Just wanted to point out the amount of MIAC distance guys in nationals this year is incredible:
Lucas Mueller -3k
Tris Dodge - 3k
Matt Wilkinson - 5k
Thomas Lerdall - 5k
Sean Lonergan- Mile
Karl Wachter - Mile
Frank Gustafson - Mile
Carl Kozlowski - 800
Absolutely. A year or two ago people, including myself admittedly, were bagging on the MIAC for not having stars anymore. No longer. The MIAC is deep now! We can come away with some solid All- Americans this year. Proud of all of them.
Can anybody beat them? Dang. 6th for wilkinson and mueller. Looks like the MIAC is pretty well squared off for the next two years.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
