Very normal. Been around since we walked. Moran.

The over the top nature of how she was disowned makes me wish it is all a big hoax. Hard to believe anyone could treat their child that way.
Donated, thanks for posting and thank you for all the trolls with their hate out there that really convinced me to donate.
Terrible parenting. Be better, people.

My 67-year old irresponsible mother cost me $6600 in August. May I start a GoFundMe page for either her if I disown the idiot or how about just a GoFundMe for myself?
Do people not see this as a potential abuse to have one's child college education costs underwritten by people passionate about liberating sexual orientations?
Yeah, sure, I am gay, parents disowned me, MIT here I come! FINALLY!
Her parents disowning her is disgusting and worthy of our contempt. They sound like terrible people.
On the other hand, an awful lot of parents cannot afford to pay for college and their child (or they) take out student loans. Some people can't navigate that system and never have the opportunity to attempt college. Or some kids can't run because they choose to work in college rather than go into debt.
If I had a third hand, I would point out that this girl had a plan to pay for college and that plan was taken away at the last minute because she is gay. So a GoFundMe seems appropriate and positive to get her through the next semester while she sorts out if she wants to get a loan or not.
A GoFundMe to pay for her remaining 3 years seems nice, but is a bit hard to swallow in view of all the kids who take loans, work, or can't go to college at all.
Good thing that the NCAA allowed her to receive the funding after her parents cruelly and short-sightedly disowned her for a decision that is her own business and not necessarily even permanent, given her age. I will be curious, however, as to the precedent that they have just set when college football or basketball players get their own go fund me accounts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This is great. Her parents are cruel? Sorry but are parents obligated to pay for college? What type of entitled ahole are you? Parents choose whether or not to HELP their kids pay for school. It's their choice, you do not have the right to make the decision for them. You are sew dum.

Why do you care so much? If it doesn't affect you at all, move on and live your life.

100% chance there is more to the story, and the parents' side of the story will be completely different.

It is normal for them.
What percentage of the human runs for fun? Is that normal?
It is not normal in a purely statistical manner in that 68% of the people are not gay, but that is perfectly normal for them.
I bet if I knew you, I could pick out some abnormal behaviors that you have.

It is hard to believe, but I met a woman a year or so ago. We were on a first date, and it was going well until a gay couple walked by (two men holding hands, being affectionate). She made some derogatory content and then said how her son was gay and she never spoke to him. Talk about a turn of events. See ya!

There is always more to a story. Would love to hear the parents' side although I am not confident their justification will fly with me.
I wish her the best.

Actually there's a longer version of the story out there that says the parents admitted to it and didn't really mean to disown her, they just did it to try to manipulate her into getting what they wanted from her (to get her to not date another girl and to go to therapy to address her homosexuality). They didn't think she'd take them seriously and stick to her guns. Now they want her to come back and they're worried for her and blah blah blah. Still not sure if they're paying her tuition though.
So the family is pretty despicable through and through. Google around for the longer article, I can't right now.
Still doesn't make it normal no matter how much liberals want it to be. I don't have a problem with gays. I have a problem with liberals who think they are the spoken ones for gays because they are so enlightened.
68% aren't gay according to you, so 32% are? GTFO with that nonsense.
She is 19, and also, they did not get her parents side of the story. Probably more accurate to say she was cut off, not disowned.
I think most people agree that when adult children engage in behaviour you view as unhealthy you server financial ties, but of course you always love your children.
Plenty of 19 year olds pay their own bills because their parents are not affluent.

The hard to believe part is that you met a woman?

So it’s now despicable for parents to want what is best for their kids and try to not have them go down a path of sexual sin and heartache?
Hating homosexuals is wrong but we shouldn’t have to say the behavior is normal or right.
Yes, it is despicable for parents to cutoff their ties to their children because of indoctrinated and misplaced morals about love and sin.
If she was not an athlete on a partial money this would not be an issue at all as she would be allowed to keep the money. The NCAA to their credit, allowed her to use the money for school (and only approved school expenses - what she spends it on has to go through an approval process) as it was considered an unexpected event that caused financial distress - which seems reasonable. It seems the NCAA took a considered approach that works out for all involved.
You can do a gofundme page for anything you like for any reason - does not mean anyone has to contribute and my guess is you would find few takers in paying for your hookers. I think it is even less likely, if you were on scholarship that the NCAA would allow you to keep said money under your reasoning. And that case it would also be the right thing to do.
Maybe this does cause a avalanche down a slippery slope of people trying to use crowdfunding to supplement athletic money but all that means is the NCAA will have to better define what people can and cannot use it for or allow people who really do need these funds to use them on a one off basis using the current system. I don't see a problem there.
