Typical bullshit LR thread. He's had the best marks of ANY collegiate runner since he started as a frosh. He's a human being and has always been a factor.

What a stupid title OP.
Typical of our media today in that the title is a question with a negative lead on word to formulate an answer before thinking.
Fisher coming second sandwiched between an older Aussie and a considerably older African is dam good. NCAA is international line it or not. What comes with the USA against the world is stuff competition and in some cases an unfair advantage to foreign athletes.
Fisher finished top 5 or better in XC three years in a row. He has won two consecutive PAC 12 XC titles. He was young coming into college and has a great running future. Safe to say he has a pretty heavy load studying electrical engineering at Stanford and has to stay awake in class and through many evenings to have won two national scholar athlete XC awards and one national scholar athlete track award. To manage that and compete at a consistently high level that he has is incredible.
He has done exceptionally well on the track winning a national 5,000 m title as a sophomore and a pac 12 1500 m title. There is much more that can be said about Grant Fisher and all of it is positive and at the highest level.
I'd say he's had a pretty solid career. One of the best 4-year careers, ever.

It seems to me he is not a disappointment at all. History dictates that NCAA dominance is neither necessary nor sufficient for a fruitful professional running career. Personally, I am curious about his speed at the mile, 800, and 400 . (Obviously the latter two are not his specialty, nor close to it). The reason I say this is that he should have been able to out-kick any opponents towards the end, but he didn’t. Either way, it is impossible to predict how good he will be as a pro. I personally think he’ll be great. Who knows.
He's had an outstanding career so far, just not what we thought.

Way to contribute to a nice discussion man. He has accomplished a lot in his career at Stanford. If I had to guess 4 years ago, I would have wagered he would have more than 1 NCAA title at this point. Just wanted to see what everyone else thought. Have a good one. And go Grant, always rooting for humble guys like you.

“We”? Speak for yourself brother. But yes, outstanding. And not over yet!

You are completely one dimensional. Grant Fisher is going to have more life options than any of the posters in this thread. He was a sub-4 high school miler, a dominant competitor in the NCAA and will have an electrical engineering degree from Stanford.
What more could you have ever asked for in a kid from Michigan?
Was Chris Lukezic also a disappointment?

Not questioning him as a person whatsoever, he is incredibly well spoken and attends an exceptional university. Just wanted to know what people thought of his athletic career at Stanford. My apologies for unintended hate towards grant
He chose an education over great running. Maybe he achieves more at Oregon, NAU, or Colorado, but the Stanfurd degree will help him more in the long run.
Fisher took 5th as a sophomore, so the expectation was that he'd win it all before he was done, especially with his excellent kick, but then we also thought Derrick would take a title, and he was better as a freshman. But it's an accomplishment just to have a healthy college career starting at that level. His academics may well be at the root of his not dominating at this level in the way we expected.
No, people like Lukas verzbicas were disappointing

Why? He’s not a 10k guy. Even if he has the best top speed or even 400m speed in the entire field, it’s not like they jogged 9600m then kicked. I’m sure he was probably gassed. Getting to the end fresh enough to kick is way more important than top speed

Lol what??

3:49 miles are so overdone.
He's young yet and can still win Olympic glory. But I certainly doubt it.
This is the most transparently and unwittingly racist thing I've read on the boards. "Americas born" is a way that Former MI runner can say "white" without feeling bad about it.

How about we start saying “Americas born” instead of “American born.” It’s not like being Canadian gives you an advantage as opposed to being born in East Africa.
Anyway, he ran for the US already so I don’t think he can ever run for Canada, but I might be wrong?
You guys are being tough on him. 10k is probably 5k too long for him. Look out at the 2020 Olympic trials.
Anyways, coming in second is nothing to be ashamed about. He always sits and kicks though, and this time he got beat at his own game! I would love to see him dictate races more, and run some fast times.
Kid is a stud, and if I had to put money on it, I think he’ll claim another NCAA title or two before he graduates and has a very long and successful pro career.
