Cross has never been my strong point, in HS I only broke 17 twice. Never even ran varsity at the state meet. I did run XC this fall, although I was hurt (heel bruise which took 6 weeks and PT to get back from) in the beginning of the season . I only raced twice. First race was after a 5 weeks of training and I ran 27:22. 2 weeks later I ran 27:18 on an extremely muddy course, super rainy. I'd figure I would have ran 26:30ish on a dry course with good weather. I haven't raced lately because I didn't make top 9 for XC which was partly due to the fact that my season started so late and I didn't have a good aerobic base.
To show my lack of buildup this was my buildup this fall, post injury. 4 weeks from 0 to 61

Did my first workout yesterday, although it was more of a mini workout. Here's my log entry
2 mile WU (6:42 pace),
2 x 800 @ 5k date pace, rest 2:15, (2:35.72,2:38.53)
2 x 400 @ 1 mile date pace, rest 4:00 (67.76,67.84)
2 mile CD (6:47 pace).
For this workout, I got out to the track and there was 30 mph winds so that slowed me down. It took a little while for me to get my legs feeling warmed up since the wind made it rather chilly out.
First 800 was (75.99+79.73)2:35.72, went out a bit fast because of my excitement of it being my first workout.
2:15 rest, next 800 was in (78.64+79.89) 2:38.53. This was more under control, felt just as easy. 2:15 rest.
First 400 (32.65+35.11) 67.76, 4 min rest, Final 400 in (33.72+34.12) 67.84. Legs would only start getting fatigued after about 300 in the 400 reps. Great first day to get the legs moving a bit. I feel super strong right now aerobically, as well as very in touch with my legs and how they feel. All of my experience with training on my own and doing dozens of solo track workouts pays off. I really felt at home with the run today, it was like a reunion with an old friend. Can't wait for some larger volume workouts at mile pace like 10x400 or something simmilar.
Did your coach give you this workout? Based on your mileage and PRs, this should have been extremely easy and basically pointless. Label me confused.
When are you racing next? What phase of your training cycle are you currently in?

I am currently in the building phase of my training. Workout given by coach, it was supposed to be easy. I think that it was a fine early season workout given that I have not done any track/speed work besides strides in months and also the fact that I am just building up again and hardly doing any mileage. For my workouts, my PR's don't matter at this point in time, all of my workouts should be based around my current fitness. I'm not racing indoor for a month and I don't need to be in peak shape until mid Jan.
If you are still confused I'd be more than happy to elaborate more.
Please continue to listen to your coach (the person who actually knows your background and the long term plan) and not the peanut gallery .
Oh and to the guy who said you need to run 1:49 to do anything in D1 - I guess 95% of all D1 800m runners just might as well quit then since fewer than that will ever see the south side of 1:50.

Thursday - 5.1 @ 6:50 Everything felt good.

Saturday - 7.49 @ 6:00 (6:14,5:54,6:04,5:57,5:54,6:01,5:48,3:06) Felt super good, ran faster than usual, went home and slept about 10 hours afterwards which was much needed.
Sunday - Off, rested

8 x 200m repeats 2 wu, 2 cd 2:30 rest between rest with 200 jog.

It was 34 degrees out and by the time I finished my last few reps the sun had set.
Felt good to do some faster stuff. I have never done a workout with such short reps and a longer rest but it felt good.

Obviously you don´t know either. Literally is the opposite of "figuratively". If I say that a guy is a "couch potato" then I mean that he is lazy and don´t like physical exercise. That is figurative language - the opposite of literal language. If I´m saying that a guy is literally a couch potato, then he really is a potato placed in a couch.
Please tell me how someone figuratively does 27 miles in a week.

Seems reasonable maybe a few seconds slower, but who knows. It's crazy to think that though, bc my senior year of HS I trained all season just to get close to 4:25-4:29 shape and now with 4 weeks of training, ~30mpw and 2 real workouts, I'm already in that kind of shape. As long as I can avoid injury, it will be fun to see what the winter/spring holds.
