ONCE YOU BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF ONE CHICK YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK.
One had to see that coming. As to the poster's original question, you must immediately boost your mileage from 35 miles to 100 miles per week. Fear not - this will not result in injury unless you are an injury-prone genetic outlier like Pete. You have Malmo's personal guarantee (he's kind of a big deal around here).
Don't know what you were expecting from letsrun but this thread has probably made it pretty clear for you already. Don't expect a whole lot to be different.

Hello, I am a new runner. I started last august and my MPW is up to 35 miles. My mile PR is 6:05, but I can't break 20 minutes for the 5K for the life of me. What must I do?
By the way, my stats:

well looking at most running tables and conversions a 6:05 mile is equivalent to anything from 20:26 to 21:30 so it isn't odd that you are not breaking 20. I would recommend that you run more mileage and throw in some quality workouts throughout the week (1 or 2 a week). Most people will usually do 1 long run a week 1 tempo run and 1 quality interval workout. The rest of the days are usually just easy mileage. Hope this helps.
Major tips:
1) one long run a week. For you, 6-9 miles would be good.
2) one tempo run (3-5 mile run at about 1:20-1:30 per mile slower than your mile PR) or some cruise intervals (shorter intervals, 1000m to 1 mile, at about 7:00-7:15 pace with short, as in 1:00, rest between runs) a week.
3) one speed workout (mile pace reps of 200, 300 or 400 meters with 2-4 times the length of the interval rest or short hill runs (80-100m) with an easy downhill jog.
4) one workout at goal pace (6:26 per mile or 1:36 per 1/4) with short recoveries. Start with something short, maybe 200's or 300's. As you get comfortable increase the length of the intervals. Total volume for fast stuff should be no more than 3 miles.
5) make your easy days easy and your hard days hard.
That's a start.
I'm part of that 5%.
Hey baby, can I get a happy ending?
oh you
Owwwww...she didn't say no!

think you were just too sensible and introduced yourself. You should just have started by slagging someone off first and then you'd be accepted... anyhow don't expect anything too highbrow here but there are some good, useful threads and some silly but entertaining ones..
This is the best post ever! Always wanted to meet a beauty like you on the internet!
you're learning fast...
Hey, welcome to the board!

She's already learning how to make quick insults. She's gonna fit in great!
Jennifer, yes, you would defeat 95 percent of the runners here, especially the guy who used your name to post from his momma's basement computer.
Most of the guys here have never had a date, live with mommy, shave 3 minutes off their 5K time (they all run around 18 minutes or above), and basically have no lives.
