As remarkable as her times are, she has not shown superlative top end, near or under 2:00 800 m, speed yet to be a medal contender in track at the world stage-even among juniors. She seems to have a very high VO2 max and biomechanical efficiency at distances and could be another Paula Radcliffe eventually. I hear she does very high mileage so her progress may plateau or level out soon. Other phenoms like Ryan and Lindgren seemed probably maxed out on performance at a fairly early age for that reason. In contrast, Molly Huddle improved much after college by increasing her mileage then.
She's not very speedy, true. She's going to be at her best at 5k and up.
The spelling is Ryun btw. Actually Ryun kept improving until he didn't have it mentally - that was after the savaging he took from the media, which had a lot of politics behind it as well. 1968 was a vicious year politically in the US, and that's when the media took its cue from its owners and masters and turned on the majority population. Something that's gotten worse by degree every few years, having almost reached its peak today. Almost. The nation wreckers have done a good job with teaching the mass of a ceratain population to hate itself, to lessen their overall confidence.
Jakob at 16 ran 3:31 for 1500m, just five seconds off an incredible doped wr, and 13:17, which was not close to what he could have run, which I believe was sub 13. 15:37 is flying at her age, but still that's 1:25 off the wr and 1:03 off the American record. Jakob's time was under two seconds from the AR (3:29.3) and his 5 was 40 seconds off the wr and 24 seconds off the AR.
She's doing great and I hope it is sustainable and she continues to develop as a runner for the next decade.
All that is complete nonsense. Jim Ryun was at his best in 1967 and suffered a bit in 1968 because of mono and an injury, as well as racing at 7k against an athlete born and raised at a higher altitude. The media had nothing to do with that.
BTW neighbor, you might try getting facts right as well. My predictions were for times in the one and two mile events during track season. As far as I can tell, but I will ask you for help, this is September and it is cross country season and she has not run either of those events yet. So my prediction is neither right nor wrong yet. I was replying to someone who posted based on this race she was in sub 930 2 mile pace as I recall.
What's the over/under on Tuohy breaking 15:00 in the 5000? Her recent performance indicates about a 14:40 on a blazing fast 3 mile course like Woodbridge out in southern california.
Her lack of 800 speed is worrying. "Aerobic beasts" always end up burned out, chewed up and spit out on the world stage, if they make it that far. She needs to get down to 2:00 flat by the end of her senior year, or she'll be destined to be a B-list 10,000 meter runner.
When is the next World Juniors? Tuohy has potential to medal in the 3000 or 5000. She'll surely be as fast as Tanaka in another two years.

Jakob just turned 18 (9/19/2000). These times were not run with 16 but with 17 and 10 months.
With 16 (again rather 16 and 9-11 months) he ran 3:39, 3:56, 8:00 and 13:35.84

Ayana.
Now, I don't know how bad Tuohy's speed is, but there are occasional successful aerobic monsters. They are rare though, you usually need a kick to be world stage competitive.
This is silly... how many HS girls have ever been 2:00? Tuohy is not that runner. She's not going to run 55 for 400 or better in HS. She's more like Hasay, Huddle, Flanagan, etc. than she is like Cain, Efraimson or, to note the current 5k best -- Houlihan.

How is she manage that without coming on here for a prediction first?

Would be interesting to see the 800 PRs of, say....Benoit and Radcliffe. All distance running potential boiled down to 800 PRs. Dumb.

I don't think that it's "hate" at all to object to presenting an all-time great performance as requiring only sub-maximal effort. To do so is immodest, EVEN IF true.
I won’t care about her 800 time when she breaks 15 minutes in HS.
I'm a big fan of Katelyn. I'm glad nobody here is accusing her of doping. It is good to see.
When she runs 16.07 on Parliament Hill in the rain let me know. Otherwise I'll wait for some comparable track times which actually have some recognisable meaning.
Only Americans compare xc times duh. No-one else even compares times on the same *course* year on year never mind different courses.

There should be a U18 worlds in 2019 and a U 20 in 2020.
2016 3000m Degefa/ETH 8:41 (bronze 8:46) 5000m Fentie/ETH 15:29
2018 3000m Tanaka/JP 8:54 (bronze 8:56) 5000m Chebet/KEN 15:30
I hope she is the next Decker, but...awfully notable how few world class runners there are on that list of all-time fast XC times. Then again, I guess we shouldn’t always be looking to “the next thing.” I would have VERY happily settled for HS phenom who never went anywhere !!!

Give 'em a minute. They will.

Yeah, genius.
All we have to go by is that paltry two and a half minute gap between her and second place. lol
