1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 door, automatic
1998 Hyundai Accent 2 door, automatic
1997 Pontiac Sunfire, automatic
1996 Geo Tracker 4x4, automatic
I am going to college and would like to know which of these four cars, (if anyone has driven these), handles the best, or which car would be the best for driving 4 1/2 hours to college.
Thank you

Id take either the Grand Prix or the Hyundai. The GP is a decent size and the handling is real stable. The Hyundai would be nice if you dont enjoy parking. Sunfire's are kinda ugly and Geo Trackers have a tendency to roll (VERY Unstable). Just my humble opinion.
Those cars are all very unreliable. The Hyundai is the best in this aspect of the 4 however it is also small. I would probably sacrafice some reliability and get the Grand Prix if you can only pick from those four, however I would try and find some more cars to look at.
Don't buy a car, all it will be is a drag on you pocketbook.
Well I kind of need a car to make a 4 1/2 hour drive to my college just to get there. Thanks for the input so far! Keep them Coming!!! I am really interested in the GP but still not for sure. I drive a beat up old 92' mazda 626 but am selling it. It drives fine, but it is just a hastle to put newer parts into it so it can make a drive to college. I'd rather have a car that will go and won't need some maintenance for at least a while. Keep it coming!
Thanks

I was in a similar situation as yourself, and went with a Pontiac Grand Am (close to the grand prix). It was defitely a beater of a car, but was a four door automatic, and hauled all of my buddies around with no problem. I didn't beat on it though, because I knew it had to last me. I put got it with 90,000 miles on it and two weeks after graduation got rid of it with 180,000 miles. Just change the oil and don't treat it like a go-cart or think it can go off roading.
I test drove a Hyndai Accent, and its engine was as large as my dad's lawnmower (three cyliner?). I wasn't planning on beating on a car but needed a little more than that.
Good luck.
Is there no one that can drive you to school?
Take a bike; it will save you lots of money and time. Parking on many campuses cost money and the time spent trying to find a parking space is a waste.
I went half a year at college without a car and did not miss it all. When I needed to come home, there were boards where you could find rides and share gas expenses. Much cheaper.
The insurance cost also is money you could save for later or your parents could save!
forget all those and pony up for a 2006 BMW M6. That's a much better car than any of those. And 500hp as well.

yeah maybe if i hit the lottery...once again college runner, key word college, definition: someone who pays the school money for stuff they may never use in their life!
Once again, money being the issue, I could never afford this car. Now on the other hand i am able to afford a car between $2000 and $3000...But that type of car will always be on my wish list...

DON'T GET ONE. THERE IS NO NEED.

Don't get one!? are you insane? I know this is a running site, but I am not going to run what would take a 4 1/2 hour drive. This would be ridiculous! I need a car and bad. I am looking for helpful suggestions to these four cars. Has anyone driven any of these cars? If so would like help on my decision.
Thanks!

Where do you live and where do you need to go? I'll take you.
Find an old used Honda Civic. It will last well over 150,000 and up to 200,000. If you can find a hatchback, it's easy to toss your bike or gear in. They are small, cheap, realiable, and get great gas mileage. Those cars you mentioned are very unreliable.
I'd recommend a 1995 or newer Volkswagen Jetta. My god is mine reliable - I have 135,000 on it and it still has almost every single original part, except the tires and the filters. Still new battery. It's still cranking out around 120 hp, and runs like a dream. It's timing belt snapped once, but that's the only problem with reliablitiy I've had with it in over 40,000 miles. I got mine for... 3 grand? I think so. It's a good car.
shit man, RUN there.

You don't have someone else who could help you out (friends, family, someone else???) to drive you out. I know it's quite a trip, but 4.5 hours isn't hell. I just finished freshman year, and while a car would have been "cool," I by no means needed it. Tons of people have them, so save money and just borrow their's. And for us athletes, a little biking here and there never hurts. And if you buy a car, I'd agree that the GP is the best out of those 4, although there's gotta be better options out there.
Cheap and reliable is what a college student needs, and of that list, only the Hyundai fits both bills.
Second is the Grand Prix. I wouldn't touch those other two cars with a 10-foot pole.
I absolutely love my loaded '98 Ford Escort Sport, but if there's anything I wish was different about it, I wish it was a 4-door. Go with a 4 door, large trunk, great gas mileage. It seems the Grand Prix would be the best choice, but I don't know what the gas mileage is like. If you're going to a college in a city where trails are 4+ miles away, it's good to have a car. Otherwise, if you're in a small town and don't plan on going home during the semester, you could probably get by without a car.
You don't understand... He goes to Central Michigan, where having a car is a requirement in order to get to and from the bars and casino.
Plus, you need it to drive across campus to class or the SAC.
Having a car is a MUST.
