Like Justyn Knight @ 40 mpw?
That kind of suck?
Have you ever heard of the saying exception to the rule? One in a million people win the lottery. Should you than conclude that you should not save and invest for your retirement and just buy lottery tickets?
Uhm, it may also be more reflective of the athleticism of fast twitch athletes who have no need to pound their bodies into oblivion trying to do 100 mpw with slow twitches.
Apples meet Oranges.
You may call it the lottery, but it would probably surprise most distance runners that those soccer, LAX, hockey and basketball studs are just like Knight. They just never got into distance or mid distance running.
The U.S. has thousands of potential mile WR athletes. They just won't be found or developed because they either don't know their talent because they play a fun sport or they just don't care, it's running!
Training 100 mpw, LSD-style. is lazy training by slow twitch runners with no other athletic skills. Those with talent optimize their training and don't need 100 mpw to be a miler or even 5ker.
