Yeah but they finished dead freakin' last at Nats last year, and they did not do much better the year before that.
Don't they have to do a bunch of other physical training year-round? It might make sense to prioritize being generally strong versus the whole complicated cycle associated with base-building and peaking.
Also, I'd think they'd need more upper body strength year-round than is actually optimal for XC.
