Hi Weightloss struggle,
My advice if you want to shed weight and run faster is to do it smart and to stay committed.
Hopefully you have 3 or 4 months before your season ends.
Keep it simple: Run more, sleep more, drink only water and lots of it, and eat healthy. Make sure you have a good pair of training shoes. Can't run fast or far if you're injured.
It'll take 10-14 days to see any real changes, but keep it consistent. Cut out dairy and limit meat consumption to see optimal gain...even sooner. If you're running more, you eat more carbs, veggies, fruit. NO MEAT??? NO DAIRY? WHERE R U GETTING UR PROTEIN??????
Protein is in a lot of foods. Eat more nuts, peanut butter, brown rice, veggies, potatoes, etc. Avoid hydrogenated foods, High Sodium foods, and foods with a lot of sugar.
The Western diet has resulted in a lot of unhealthy people. We have a lot of fat people, and as you get older, your metabolism will slow, and diet will be > than training. Ex:) 8th grade weight: 147. 9th grade weight:130. College race weight: 143. Currently 28 y.o. male hovering in between 157-162 depending on the day, and I've run 55-65 miles the past 4 weeks. Lifestyle changes will get me to run faster, but I like carbs, I like cheese, I like beer, I'm married, I have a career. Laziness, excuses, yada yada. Life is full of choices. Life will get in the way. If you're in high school, make a positive change and make it soon.
History Lesson:
Culturally, look at what most Asian countries have as staple foods. Veggies and rice. Look at what a lot of East African countries eat diet wise....Quinoa and other earthy foods. I don't know off the top of my head but the bottom line is as you get older, your diet and lifestyle will need to adjust and just be smart. Those countries don't have Heart Disease as the #1 killer in females like America does. Just because EVERYONE is eating this or that or doing this or that doesn't mean it's right. It doesn't mean humans have always done it.
Columbian Exchange: Look it up. In the history of human beings, the last 500 years have been crazy fast. Rapid changes are happening. Take a look at your life and reflect.
Humans 500 years ago weren't putting additives, and coloring and preservation ingredients in their foods. (salt is the only one I know of off the top of my head)...They weren't drinking milk every day, and eating cheese every day and able to eat "beef" or "chicken" or "pork" in less than 10 minutes at their local eating hole. Italians were afraid of tomatoes and the honey bee hadn't been to America yet, and people weren't craving sugar, or chocolate or coffee or those FIRE Mountain Dew Freezes at the Taco Bell. You know what I'm talking about people.
