It is also worth mentioning that he won the 1600m in 4:08.xx, going 2:07/1:59.
Too bad his grades suck and that’s why he was the last good runner in the class of ‘18 to sign with anyone.
you are correct, but the guy who says that he is 20 is not
As of now Gonzaga doesn't have an indoor facility, but may have one by 2020 assuming this comes through from the city of Spokane (they would have to share it with several entities, including Eastern Washington, Whitworth, and whatever high schools in the area wish to use it):

No, no, that's Portland. Where kids go to run LOT'S of miles and never be heard of again.
Who hurt you?
His grades were fine. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go that far away for college and went for the local brand. Tyson was a big draw and also recruited him first. Do your research before you pop off, slice.

Hmmm....I wonder where Tyson went to high school, I wonder who had the most distance regional NCAA qualifiers from a WA state university this year, I wonder who didn't even have an official track team ~10 years ago, I wonder what school just landed an 846 kid when they don't even have a track facility! Sounds like a good story!
1) Lincoln HS of Tacoma, same school as James
2) 7 for the Zags...6 for UW....3 for WSU
3) GU started their Outdoor Track program in 2007 and Indoor in 2010 (hmmm that's not very long ago)
4) GU
My guess is Gonzaga is going to be on the national scene in the next few years. Furman has gotten all the press (as they should) for their recent development because they really did it BIG and made it happen in such a short amount of time but Gonzaga has been second to them in terms of progression as a program. And if someone had donated millions to the track team, then I wouldn't be surprised if Gonzaga would have had the same success equally as fast. But what do I know? And for anyone who is worth their marbles, they know that GU is doing more with less and something special is happening up in Spokane!

8:50+ for two miles
Depends on who is doing the calculations. Could be just under 8:50 at 8:49.94 using one conversion tool.
Nope, 8:50+
This ^
Plus Furman is very close, if not completely, fully funded in terms of scholarships. Gonzaga had 0.5 (half) of a scholarship when Tyson took over. They still are nowhere close to full (an educatated guess would be 4 athletic scholarships currently). No hate on Furman but lots of love for the Zags and Tyson.
This kinda reminds me of Portland landing Dunbar.
In terms of this being GU's first true blue chip recruit, I think it is very similar to UP with Dunbar (no disrespect to the David Kinsellas and Troy Fraleys of the world). But....on the flip side, UP was light years better than GU is now when they got Dunbar. GU has never even made NCAA's in cross, UP had already been to Nationals for 15ish years before Dunbar stepped on campus. It is a HUGE story that a mid 840s 3200 kid chose a school with such little history. Makes me think that Gonzaga is doing something right!

A great get for Gonzaga!
For the Zags, yes. Not sure that it was the best choice for Mwaura though and his development. He needs teammates that can push him and help him grow. What happens after the 1st year or 2? He will be training on his own.
Are you kidding? Not having people around him will hurt him? Look what he's doing now. His next closest teammate right now is 10:23 in the 3200, 4:41 in the 1600.
Pretty sure this kid is used to grinding things out on his own. Having anyone remotely close to him during workouts will help him even if they're 2-3 seconds back.
Brenna Peloquin's brother Bradley for second in 9:05 as a junior. No surprise he's got the talent. Wonder if he'll go to Boise too?

aren't there like 15 Peloquins?
I think there's 2 more Peloquins coming up. Just a couple more transfers and they'll be a national powerhouse again!
Check the Boise State women's roster.
I agree. James will undoubtedly flourish at Gonzaga. Sbeefyk2 obviously has not done their research in looking to see how Gonzaga has been flourishing these past years. They’ve received very few blue chip recruits (with exceptions of Troy Fraley, Jake Perrin and most recently Javier Munoz maines) and are doing great things with other athletes who are developing immensely under Tyson. Tyson led 7 mid D and D guys to NCAA regionals this year, which was the within the top10 of any NCAA West teams, and all but one of those qualifiers are returning next year. With the resources, or lack there of, that GU deals with, they’re an incredible team with tremendous upside, something James obviously saw when he visited them. You’ll be hearing them on the national stage sometime quite soon.
Twenty years ago, a bunch of us in the PNW were wondering when Tyson would be carrying his success to the D1 level. Seems like it just takes time. I think it took a few years to build a dynasty at Mead.
Unfortunately, Gonzaga doesn't seem to recognize or value their xc/track teams. They just built a beautiful new student athlete center with a second basketball center/gym and yet they can't find money for an track (outdoor or indoor). They should have called it what it is, the new basketball center. It is like a big middle finger to Tyson. He does a lot with the little he gets but this shows how the school values xc/track...it is nowhere close to fully funded. Don't see it changing anytime soon when all their revenue is created by the basketball team.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
