Mondo Duplantis competing for Sweden internationally just (fill in the blank) me off. Same for you Shawn Barber, and the host of other athletes, from all other countries who compete for another country other than their birth country.
I would have done anything, had I had close to the talent these athletes do, to compete for a US team in T & F. It was my dream.
Why do top-level athletes in the US spit in our countries face and choose to compete for a blank hole country they have never lived in? You cannot use the excuse for either Duplantis or Barber that they may not have made this country's US Team. Sorry, David Torrance, (RIP) you are not exempt from this argument either. And you Diego Estrada, you are a traitor too. Compete for Mexico in the London Games, but now compete for the US? WTF is that?
The only person I can give a flyer to is Alexi Pappas, a talented "filmmaker" who is now the greek 10k record holder. She at least had to balls to become a Greek Citizen before she competed for Greece. Everyone else in this scenario has a Lame citizenship out.
The International rule to allow athletes to compete for different countries so easily has to change. I suspect if it was harder to change from running for Kenya and then competing for Denmark, we would stop seeing so many "17-18" year old Ethiopians and Kenyans who come out of the grass every year running an amazing 13.07 or winning the Pre 2 mile in 8:20. There would be no reason to "legally cleanly compete"anymore as they would be forced to compete for their native Kenya instead of being traded to other countries and allowed to compete all over the world for Denmark, England, USA, etc...
I do not care who I offend...Duplantis, your decision to compete against the US in track for Sweden is wrong. Remember what happened to the German Soldier from Oregon in Raising Private Ryan?
