It's a good thing Chelimo is an American, or I suspect we'd really be torching him for what appears to be a world record in final lap look-backs. I'm checking Coe and Aouita finishes for validation.

Did the same thing at Glasgow indoor 3000m.

Go to 4:30 mark of clip, which picks up the race just before the 6:30 mark. I count 22 look-backs in the final 1:10 or so of the race.
And he loses it exactly the way he lost today. Not exactly showing a learning curve.
Atlanta '96, after El G took his tumble, Morceli and Cacho were sprung clear of the 1500m field. Cacho looked back 17 times in the last 400, protecting his silver. I thought that would stand as some kind of record. But Chelimo has him beat.
He had the best view in the stadium of the race winner and was making the most of it.
turning his head isn't the biggest challenge he has. Its his lack of a gear change when he wants to go. He 'hunts' Over strides and bounces, and his cadence stays the same. He needs to drop his foot in a little shorter and get his hips up a bit. He's too one paced in the last 150.

Chelimo looked over his shoulder 19 TIMES the final lap by count. May have been more as Jon said he looked over 12 times the final 200. He ended up losing the race by .02 just at the finish. So close to winning his first DL.
It's a breathing strategy borrowed from swimming.
Regardless, Chelimo checks most of the "likely doper" boxes and I have a hard time getting excited about his performances.

Coaches how would you teach him not to do it so often? Clearly it makes him feel comfortable when he runs and you don't want to coach that away.
I would get him to wear those sunglasses with rearview mirrors built in so he can look backwards whether he wishes without moving his head. I don't know why more runners wear these type of glasses that can give them a competitive edge.

Lol, good one!!!
Why was he allowed to block Salew into lane 3?

- Chelimo doping would be AWESOME!
- I thoroughly enjoy him failing ... along w/OUR Army's WCAP.

Wow, I knew he played rough, but that is beyond the limit!
He never really looks fully relaxed, even in the middle of races it looks like he's fighting for position and worried about too many guys passing him. Oh well, still a great run for him when other top guys did poorly.

With you ... wonder if the Army tests WCAP for things beyond marijuna.
Under Army regulation he’s subject to the ASAP program. Which means he’ll be tested approximately once per year for various illegal substances.
Lickety, I’m not sure if you’re a troll, have Asperger’s or are just a sociopath.
What is your recourse?
Have you written DOD? IMCOM? Or USAREC? If not you should, and definetly report here with any coorespondence.

I hate Chelimo. He did it again. Why come to lane 3 from lane 1? What a bad racer.
Agree ... "Chucklehead Chelimo"!

He's a troll.
I don't go so far as to wish ill on him. But between his tactics and meteoric rise I can't bring myself to root for him.
F*ck you, Kiprop.
Just root for "real" Americans in our sport and we'll be cool!

Excuse me, isn't your boy Rupp an American and doesn't he get torched mercilessly? ( and FMD, that's for winning and medalling ).
