Chelimo looked over his shoulder 19 TIMES the final lap by count. May have been more as Jon said he looked over 12 times the final 200. He ended up losing the race by .02 just at the finish. So close to winning his first DL.
Obviously I think all the looking back cost him the race. In general he'll glance over his shoulder when he runs and leads, it's almost like a tic, but he did it a lot more the final lap when he had the lead and was trying to hold everyone else off and see where they were. It's good to know how much effort you need to hold people off with but he does it way too often.
Coaches how would you teach him not to do it so often? Clearly it makes him feel comfortable when he runs and you don't want to coach that away.
Also he needs to be careful with drifting wide. He did it again today and then extended an arm.
