How is she the best around? Has she won a national championship?

The next head coach will be female if you know anything about the athletic director situation over there.
My bet it Caryl Smith Gilbert. Got it done at UCF and now at USC. Have they won a natty? No. But 3rd outdoors for the women and 2nd indoors for the men are pretty good results. And she took UCF to 5th outdoors, which I believe is the best non-power 5 finish in a long time. Shes stolen recruits from the state of texas and florida already. She could get the job done at Texas.
Now there is a legit proven leader. Look no further.
Agree on CSG. She would do amazing thing while getting rid of the cancer currently there. For the person that predicted the lack of loyalty earlier in the thread - good call. Tonja should not be rewarded for being a snake.

If the rumors of what she did at Texas are even 25% true then she is very bad news. Karma may bite her.
They have to hire a female person of color to meet UTs affirmative action goals, so forget any performance standards.
True. they should give it to an old white guy. That's the way it has been traditionally. Why should they have to earn their positions all of a sudden? It's getting hard for white guys now! Fewer than 80% of the hard coaching positions go to old white guys! That is preposterous. Nepotism, cronyism and old-boy networking for perpetuity!

John McDonnell is bored with his ranch in Oklahoma and ready to get back in the game. Now coach? Now, now coach, now?

Its true. Us old white guys are now a persecuted minority. Makes ya wanna puke.
There is only one good candidate right now: coached a 2:07 marathoner and sub 28:30 10K guys and not coaching at the college level where there are open jobs? Ridiculous. Jan Stensson is the most underrated coach on the planet.

Most underrated idiot is more like it.
Steve Magness. I know he is an alumnus of Houston but just imagine what he could do at a power 5 school with the draw of UT!
Is this the same Bailey who in 2016 her athletes had 2 golds, a silver, and a bronze at the Olympics?!
Isn't she an Olympic Bronze Medalist and a World Champion Silver Medalist?
Where are the performance standards posted? I would like to know the qualities hiring managers need in a head coach. Thanks in advance.
She has done great. No doubt, but positions like head coach at a top university have less to do with actual coaching success. It is more about management, leadership, fund raising, planning, etc. Maybe she has all of these qualities and she’s the perfect package. But Texas warrants the best to apply. She will have some competition for the job.
Like was said earlier - anybody can give 6 full scholarships out to athletes that are already good and look like a superstar. Ask AJ Bailey (T Bailey is his aunt) who scored as a freshman but was second fiddle on the team at Texas A&M. So he leaves A&M and lies about his future intentions. Next thing you know he show up on the Texas roster. Not a huge surprise. At Texas he didn’t score a point at nationals individually! Serves him right and show the snake she is.

Yes it is the same Bailey. She can coach. She was fortunate to be coached by and learn from one of the greatest hurdle coaches in NCAA history Gary Winckler while at Illinois.
Unfortunately Bailey hissed behind Mario with help from another staff member or members. Trust is not her best quality.
A coup opportunity that should backfire on her and her mutiny team.
Clean house. This is the only answer. If the new HC wants to retain some or all of the staff so be it.

How 'bout fellow U of H alum Carl Lewis as coach?
Pat Henry?

Good pick! How about promoting coach Herbster? He is a good guy with a lot of experience.
You have no idea of what you are talking about. Mario was let go because of a legitimate reason. It has absolutely nothing to do with support from his staff. It had something to do with him and no one else.
