I am sort of the opposite. I only tracked how many miles on a sheet of paper until Strava. These guys that track weather, weight, HR etc ..Amaze me! I wish I had that detailed kind of personality sometimes, but only sometimes.

Pretty cool read on pacing

Everything automatically gets uploaded to Garmin Connect for me, and then automatically gets pushed to Strava. I regularly look at Strava but rarely look at Garmin Connect (usually only if I am looking for splits on my phone since Strava doesn't cleanly give splits on the mobile app, or if I am looking for something from a specific time period since Garmin's calendar feature is better).
But my real log is a simple Excel spreadsheet to which I manually add my data every day. Strava and Garmin are just measuring tools for me, not a log.
Nice thing you have going here, will also join you from now on. Some background first:
M30
History: starting running "seriously" a year ago, PRs 5k 17:45 couple weeks ago, Marathon 2:58 last November
Current Goal: small local marathon in 6 weeks, a bit hilly, so fine with anything sub3, though sub 2:55 could be possible. on a short but intense (in terms of quality, not overall mileage) 8 week marathon-specific training plan, below week 2/8.
M - 10km Tempo @6:29, started on road which turned out to be slippery, ended up on track (+ warm-up + cool down)
Tu - 6.5mi easy @8:30
W - off
Th - 3x3km on track @6:14 w 2km easy, total 12mi
F - off
Sa - 22 mi long run @8:15, last 2mi @ 6:29
So - 6.5mi easy @8:30
Total: 57mi
Btw, I like to have my data both on Strava and Garmin connect. It's anyways synced automatically if you set it up that way, and I feel like both platforms have their advantages. I don't see any good reason to pay for Strava premium.
some more comments, sorry for folks i miss... Still getting acquainted with everyone’s training etc
stat- looking forward to the mile throw down this weekend! I’m guess not really that into the “social” side of running, so I just use Garmin Connect and have everything set to private.
back in the day & Bobo- looking forward to following your training, gentlemen. Will definitely be of interest as im not quite at you guys level...hoping to be 2:2x this fall and 1:10:xx in May. Bobo, sounds like we share an affinity for alternations workouts.
Stone- a brisk 13.1 my friend
Jewbacca- i really like that 8 x 1k ~CV. did a bunch of that and 6 x mile (more like hmp for those) in Houston buildup.
Working Harder- I think the “speed” stuff can come back pretty quickly with the things you’re doing to address running economy and turnover. volume looks good
Mzungu- big week
Runner girl- congratulations! and strong run in Houston
Consistency- welcome back
Bdubs- looks like a solid week of base.
Slo - How often did you do 6xmile at HMPish in your buildup? 60s rest? Track or Road?

Yeah that's fair. My log is public, but Running2win allows you to set it to private. As much as I like to stalk other peoples training, the biggest benefit for me is being able to go back through my training after the fact and try to figure out what worked and what didn't.
I guess the better question to ask would've been, how closely do you all track your training? Just volume and time, or do you go further?
I use Garmin Connect and Strava. I also record everything in Excel. I forget passwords like no other so I don't use the web based logs. I have an account for all of them but forget the passwords. Kinda why once in a great while I post here under my registered name.
I track volume and time as well as notate what the workout was. If I'm feeling particularly off I'll usually notate that as well or anything else that is out of the ordinary. I definitely don't keep a diary like some I've seen but I was never a runner in school so I guess I missed that part.
I use Strava (private) and it's linked to Garmin connect. I used Training Peaks a few years back for quite some time as well but haven't touched that in ages.
I include a little more detail, but not much. If I aborted a workout, I will note that. If it was really windy or something, I'll add a parenthetical comment. But that's about it.
What my Excel log looks like:
I use a few, including running2win & Strava. Currently trying to figure out which platforms I like the best and consolidate. Since I started coaching myself, I started using Excel, too. Now that you mention it, I'm wayyy over-logging everything.
I typically note distance and pace. I'll break down workouts and record mile or interval splits as well. I'll also note general weather like wind or high humidity on workout days. Helps me when comparing efforts from year to year. I do not like all fields you can fill out in running2win, though. It's too anal for me. I mention those things in my log comments, but I don't like having to fill out dozens of fields.
Gordon, my Adidas Tempos came in today. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to do 4 or so easy tonight or tomorrow in them to give them a try, but I already love them. They fit really nicely in line with the Adios and the Bostons. Basically, if the Bostons are a very slightly beefier Adios, these feel like a very slightly beefier and more stable Boston.

Been thinking of trying the tempos. Adidas, though, have always been too narrow for me.
Happy to help. Glad it looks like they'll work out for you. Think the gray ones look pretty timeless too, if you went with on sale ones.
I did go with the sale gray ones. It's a shame I'm such a heavy heel striker and pronator. Those fit like a glove. Just did a quick 5 in them.
Pappy, they may be an alternative to the Bostons. Weighed them at home - about 60 grams (+/- 2 ounces) per shoe heavier than he Adios.
Yeah I think there's 0.1 oz difference between them and the Bostons at least by listed specs.
Thanks Smoove I'll look into them. Can we get a full review after 100 or so miles.

R3- 4 times. Alternating weeks between that at hmp and 8 x 1k at ~10k pace. always on the road. long rests- 2:30 for the miles, 2’ for the k’s. Two other moderate quality days/week too. This build wasn’t really targeting Houston as much as acting as a base phase with the goal of running relaxed quicker paces and preparing to be able to hit a faster cycle leading to this 5k and be able to run a 6-8 mile tempo at 5:20 pace by May (big goal with all of this is getting to a place where 2:29 can be realistic for the fall). Run on sentence! With the exception of two races and one 8 x 1k workout, I didn’t run anything faster than ~5:20 pace for 2.5 months (Except strides and hill sprints). So Houston was a pleasant surprise. If conditions are decent, I hope I can significantly improve on that in May at Brooklyn Half when I’m a bit sharper for racing.
the conversation in here is so rich, it's a shame it has to be using message board technology from 1997. i know it's not likely, but it would be awesome if this was a conversation on reddit or slack or something civilized.
Very nice! I plan on doing 6xmile a couple more times in My build. I go less rest but I also do not do as much quality as you do. One main workout,a tempo or cruise interval session. and sometimes some progression in a long run or some strides. You had a really great race in Houston!
