90s Honda or Toyota, $1-2k will get you great condition.
A 25 year old car isn't worth s hit. I don't care if it's Japanese. But it for $1k, and 1 month later pay $2 - $3k for repairs/tuneup.
HAHAHA! REEEEAALLLY? There are THOUSANDS of people in the US just absolutely laughing at clowns like you who think old cars are 100% pitfalls. Most people with properly-maintained 90's Japanese cars are literally raking in cash every month as they get 35-40mpg, with cheeeeap insurance and little to no repairs. If you don't need a vehicle for a specific need, just get what's cheap and economical; that's LITERALLY the basis of the thread.
Sure, you could make a bad buy and get a poorly-maintained beater, but there are plenty of single/double owner Japanese sedans that have been used as commuter vehicles by frugal people and have plenty of cheap life left.
I just sold my 96 civic for $800 in good running shape. A few dents and a cracked windshield, but mechanically sound and ready for another 100k at its current 183k. In 11yrs of owning, we spent $600 on repairs and $1000 total on tires/oil changes/brake pads. How much does your POS car cost you each year, smart guy?
