She only raced it once but I think with a 14:58 its a crime to omit Flanagan from the American top 5. I love Schweitzer but the fact that she raced it so much and was barely within 20 seconds of Flanagans one race shouldn't be an argument for the former. She'll be on this list down the road but I don't think she makes it this year

Interesting to note that Obiri has never beaten Ayana in a distance race within the Diamond League - and Ayana has never beaten Obiri within an Olympic or WC event.
What does this tell us? To me it speaks volumes that Ayanas Achilles heel revolves around doubling up at WC events. I think her frontrunning style takes a lot out of her and she never puts her best foot forward in her second event of any championships.
So with no world events in 2018 it will be a true reflection of where these two wonderful female athletes are at.
It should also be noted however that since Cheryuiot has moved to the roads and Obiri has accepted her new role as 5k queen, she has improved remarkably at the distance. -
When ranking athletes you often talk about performance at USAs, but rarely talk about national titles from other nations. Is this USA-centric? Do countries like Kenya and Ethiopia have championships or qualifiers or whatever that maybe we should be paying attention to?
