Actually they were uncoached. Rodgers trained with Squires at the time of his first Boston win. When he did it again a few years later- and also won NY and Fukuoka (all 3 consecutively once) - I am under the impression he wasn't running with Sqires any more.
Shorter, on the other hand, wasn't coached the whole time he was in Florida hanging with Bacheler and John Parker. Nor was he when he moved to Boulder permanently. Nor when he was at his parents' prior to any of this. Self-coached the whole important part of his career, which blows up today's notion that RyanHall ruined himself by not having a coach (if the 4th fastest time ever run at Boston is considered ruining oneself!)
