I am confused in this hiring. Didn't seem like he did much at Texas and more so Tonja Buford Bailey did most of the heavy lifting and scoring while he was head coach...yet she seems to have been the one shafted the most since he had to step down and the hiring of Coach Flo.

Hard to believe he got a job before she did. Does anyone know where she is looking?
WTH is the deal with Devin West? He was just promoted by ASU at the end of May to Associate Head Coach and made Head Coach-in-waiting. In 2 years, he would have been a Head Coach in a Power-5 conference. Now he's off to his 8th job in what will be his 12th year of coaching.
Obviously, ASU wanted to hold on to the guy, especially with his history of changing jobs nearly every year. But it didn't work with West.
Doesn't nearly every assistant coach want to be a head coach some day? He just pissed away a guaranteed job as such, but he couldn't wait two years? Why? He may never get another chance at being a head coach.
In the past 8 years, he was at 6 schools. Since leaving his alma mater of Kennesaw State, he's never stayed more than 1 season except for doing 2 each at FSU and Georgia. One has to wonder if he's running from something . . . dissatisfaction with him by head coaches and/or administrators at every school? NCAA rules skirmishes? Why all this job-changing just to be an assistant coach again somewhere else, sometimes titled associate head or something, but never the head or director?

Probably at UNC. She would be good hire for the women's side. We just need to see if she can get along with Herbster. Guess we will know at 4.
can see a few longhorns jumping ship and conference with this hire

Is there time for kids to transfer from UT to Ark this year? Are you thinking the kids he coached directly would try to do that this year or next?
There's always time and with new D1 free agency for athletes...BOOM first major power plays coming this fall....we should have a message board just for that whole mess
I thought this might happen when Travis left. Congrats to Mario and the Hogs!

Not speaking for every assistant here, but I know plenty (myself included) that are cool with just being assistants.
-Boss let’s me do my own thing
-Have some insulation from the AD
-Get to actually COACH my athletes
I can see wanting to be a head, but based on the events we’ve seen this year (Santegna, Metcalf, etc.), sometimes it doesn’t pay to be in charge of the whole show.

Mario was terminated; doubt he's getting any unpaid salary by Texas. Buford-Bailey is most likely getting one year's salary paid to her by Texas on the condition she doesn't accept another job; if she, does the payout by Texas is lessened based on any new job salary for the coming season.
Since she probably won't get that salary elsewhere, she might as well wait until the right job is offered to her.

Sategna has proven to be a very unreliable and irresponsible coach and leader. Anyone current Longhorn who wants to endure more of that should by all means transfer to Arkansas to get another dose of Marioitis
Fair enough, that’s why i wrote “nearly every.” But if it was Devin West’s intention to stay away from being a head coach, he could have tokd the ASU AD that in May. Certainly they talked to West before publicly appointing him Head Coach-in-waiting .

San Francisco presser says Benji will take over this year. So probably an assistant position opening up there.
