Yep. It's pretty ruff out there. Don't stop retrieving; you'll whippet one day.

Definitely don't kick it. I used medium-sized rocks--that way, it didn't get close enough to do any damage. I learned this from a running partner of mine.
If you want to keep your dog safe, keep it away from public areas unless it's on a leash. If it's on a public thoroughfare, and you're not controlling it...I'm going to control it.

And 5/10. You got me going, even though I knew it was a troll post. Well played.
Best advice. Don't kick, use rocks. I've run in some real rural areas and a lot of dogs out in the sticks are crazy and aggressive. A good shotgun blast of smaller rocks always works, except this one time against a pitbull. I got away but that dog took a face full of rocks and barely skipped a beat. I think it just got to a certain point away from its home and just stopped.
I ran a lot in rural areas during hs/ college and my early 20s. In my experience, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Boxers, and Sheperds do exactly what they are supposed to do: guard their territory. These dogs will bark and snarl like crazy as you run past but they generally stay on their side of the road and aren't a real danger as long as you vacate the area directly.
The only dog that ever bit me was a mangy pitbull that came across the road without a single bark from a crappy doublewide and nicked my calf in stride. After jumping about 3 feet in the air in shock, I immediately punted it as hard as I could in the ear and lit out to avoid both the dog and any methhead owners.
To this day, I detest pitbulls. You want a bad-ass outside guard dog- get a German shepherd or a Rottweiller. (Still dangerous but trainable and useful) You want a tough looking house dog- get a bulldog. I know every pitbull owner claims their pitbull is so great and loyal and safe but every year about a dozen of them kill their owner's or neighbor's baby/ young kid. Pit bulls are by definition attack dogs and really have no particular use in a country where dogfighting is against the law. Pitbulls killed 22 people in 2016 for more than 70 percent of total canine caused fatalities. I'm on my phone and can't link but just Google it.
So to answer the question. Yes, I will kick the ever loving snot out of a dog that bites me off its owner's property. And no, I won't feel the least bit bad about it.

I've only been attacked by city dogs (galdurned Democrats for sure). Rural dogs come at you until you leave 'their' property then they head back home (otherwise the dog next door will try to kick their ass). As far as kicking the dog ... I'd rather kick the owner but, well, he's not the one charging at me is he?
Concealed carry
So many tough guys on here.
Throwing rocks and kicking is for low T chumps. A true alpha gets the dog to turn around and head home with a cold stare.
No. Shoot it.
In case you're thinking you can out run any dog...
I’m a dog lover have two myself, but ended up booting one of those little nippy dogs into next week on my run Friday.
It was early before work, the owner didn’t expect anyone else in the park. They (the owner) are just as guilty, they just sat there as the dog nipped at my heels for a whole lap.
