I had no notion KOF would have been brought up here!
Both the soundtrack and story of KOF97 are just perfect.

EASILY FF8, Legends of Dragoon, Call of Duty: MW2, Perfect Dark, the first Super Smash Brothers, Ocarina of Time, Battletoads vs. Double Dragon (was that the name?), Banjo Kazooie (we rented it three times in a row until my parents caved and bought it ha), I can't remember any more off the top of my head but there's definitely more.
Tetris Attack/Pokemon Puzzle League were absolute perfection. I've put thousands of hours into those games and I can still play them now and have a blast. As far as the puzzle game genre is concerned, these games were peerless.
Anyone remember the Triple Triad card game in FF8?
Some of my "old" favourites, GTA3, Halo, MOH:Allied Assault, Praetorians, Age of Empires 2, Counter Strike Source, Elder Scrolls:Oblivion, Toy Commander, Jet Set Radio, Rome Total War 1.
Recently... Witcher 3.
Dunno about best. But my all time greats would be:
Command and Conquer: Red Alert
Zoo Tycoon
Quake 1 & 2
Honorable mention to:
AOE 2
Wolfenstein
Doom
The last of us. I still replay it from time to time.
I like the commander keen shout-outs as well, that was a great game.
Dark Castle
Tetris
At least both were huge in my Freshman dorm in the early 1990s.
I`ve heard of free slot games, is it true that you don`t have to pay any money for playing there and all that`s just for fun? I`d like to Play Online Crazy Monkey Slot https://free-slots.games/igrosoft/crazy-monkey/ but don`t want to lose my money, want to play just to entertain myself, so help me please, explain how all that works!
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Single player: Zelda ocarina of time, N64
Multiplayer: Smash bros / goldeneye N64
Impossible to pick one, but these are a handful that immediately come to mind:
Halo 1-3
Age of Empires 2
Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars Battlefront II (2005)
E.T. on Atari
For real (just including titles, not specific versions)
Red Alert
Civilization
Tropico
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Ultima
King's Quest
Diablo

Anyone who says any game made anytime before the last 2-3 years is the “best” then 1) they are lying or 2) they haven’t played video games in decades.
+1
I've been playing video games since Atari was released. Games only get better. Sure SNES games were a blast when they came out, but I'd get maybe 45 minutes of enjoyment out of them now compared to todays releases.
Now there's so much more money put into creating games. The production teams are massive! It's become an art. Lately, the thing has been to pay big bucks for writers & you've seen the major improvements in storytelling. For some games, my wife has sat down on the couch with me simply to follow along with the story, or read the plot on wikipedia because she's a book snob & enjoys good writing. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, the Witcher 3, The Last of Us have excellent writing.
I've read the focus in the near future will be to work on improving music & pumping huge money into music creators for games.
