Did anyone ever play Dragon Wars? I was 6 or 7 when I started playing it on an old 8088 machine. On the old 5 1/4" floppy disks. Man, I found this on Steam and it's taken me way back.

WipEout HD
Dodgeball on Nintendo was awesome
Star Castles
Childhood: Original Mortal Kombat, Super SF2, Killer instinct, all played in a dark smelly arcade.
Manchildhood: Rainbow Six Vegas 1 (online). Best/most fun FPS online game ever imo.
Yahoo Pool. Got a bit addicted to that.

TECMO Super Bowl
Doom 1+2
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
In roughly chronological order:
Kommander Keen, Alone in the Dark, and Wolfenstein on PC
Mariokart and Unirally on SNES
Cool Boarders and Gran Turismo 1 on Playstation
GOAT: Civilization (Civ 3 for me)
Fortnite
Here is a vote for Final Fantasy III (US, FF6 Japan) edging out ChronoTrigger.
Ah, Terra, Kefka, Cyan, and the Opera Scene... groundbreaking for its time, and still plays well today, 30+ years later.

Hah. I loved Pong. I remember playing it in the late 1970s as a high schooler. I also love Space Invaders which I still occasionally play. But my favorite is Crossy Road (Does this - an app built with Unity that I play on my iPhone - count as a video game?).

Anyone who says any game made anytime before the last 2-3 years is the “best” then 1) they are lying or 2) they haven’t played video games in decades.
Beatmania IIDX
Jewbacca's selection was the best so far imo.
For me,
BG2, inc ToB expansion
Fallout NV
FF7 and FFX
Battlefield 2 Bad Company I put countless hours into online, countless.
GTA: San Andreas was my fave of the series
Honorable mentions to XCOM2, original XCOM on PS1, Monster Hunter Trio on Wii, Madden series, Pillars of Eternity
BUT - for me the biggest time sinks were UO and DAOC (pre-ToA). Nothing like an MMORPG to ruin your life. So not sure to put them to the top of the list or the bottom.
Read to fkin title numpty. It says 'Best Video Game You've Ever Played?' ...what you have played, best game I have ever played was RSV online mode on PS3. Killing yanks at Calypso Casino, team survival at 5am.
King of Fighters ‘97
King of Fighters 2002
Played on arcade and now on PC

If someone hasn’t played a game in decades, they are not disqualified from answering.
That being said, newer graphics doesn’t always equate to a better game. Fortnight doesn’t have near the depth as some 16-bit classics, for example. 8-bit games rarely stand up to the test of time, but certain 16-bit games are still very fun to play with very rewarding gameplay and endings, even in the current digital and internet age.

Most people here are adults so why would we have any knowledge of recent video games? My favorite games are n64 games because that's what was out when I was 8-12ish
