WHAT will Rupp do with his cool $100k?

The dude will be living like a FREAK!
Rupp has three kids. That's what he'll be doing with his money.

How do you know what Rono's form was like? You weren't even born then.
R. Deak, esquire wrote:Kirui's form is reminiscent of Rono's. He hasn't completely fallen off, he just can't hold Rupp's tempo. Impressive to see him physically battle to hang on back there.
Deak, OUT!
Maybe he saw a really accurate painting of Rono like the one Stubbs did of the great racehorse Eclipse.
I'd like to propose that running a 2:04 or 2:05 in a paced-race is less an accomplishment that winning or placing in an unpaced race. There was no real reason for Rupp to try and run 3 minutes faster than everyone else in the field. Same thing with the race in Rio. Look at the people who Rupp has beaten in his races - all sorts of 2:04 guys.. There are a slew of Kenyans and Ethiopians who have run 2:04-2:05 but they don't win in head to head competition. We'll see what happens if Rupp runs in a time-trial like Berlin, but I'm most impressed with his ability to finish on the podium. He ran a perfect race today and anybody who wants to dis him for the time is a fool. Hall had so much talent and little to show for it.

With her 30:13, Huddle can definitely dip below 2:20. I don't think Hasay will ever match that.
I disagree. Huddle is a 5-10k runner; I don't know that she will ever break 2:21. Despite being a lot faster than Hasay over 10000m, Huddle's HM PR is 14 seconds faster than Hasay's.

"We still don't know if he's an elite marathoner."
He's the first American to win the race since 1982.
He was the 10th ranked starter in the elite field, by time:
Dennis Kimetto KEN 2 2:02:57
Stanley Biwott KEN 3 2:03:51
Feyisa Lilesa ETH 4 2:04:52
Abel Kirui KEN 1 2:05:04
Sisay Lemma ETH 5 2:05:16
Ezekiel Chebii KEN 6 2:06:07
Bernard Kipyego KEN 7 2:06:19
Kohei Matsumura JPN 9 2:08:09
Galen Rupp USA 10 2:09:58
He beat Kimetto (WR holder), Biwott, and Lilesa. Lemma couldn't handle him. He completely dominated last year's winner, Kirui--just ground him down to paste the moment he put the hammer down. Kirui was lifting and bouncing like a frog; his stride shot to pieces, basically. And Rupp just motored on at 4:32 pace (something like that) for the last three miles.
I'd call him an elite marathoner.
when is Rupp gong to do a real race like New York?
Rupp stated that his focus was to go after 2:06, and that was his goal REGARDLESS OF THE PACE. Those were his words. They were highlighted on the front page of Letsrun.com. A pacer was allowed to enter the race at the last minute to help him.
He didn't do that, so I don't want to hear it. He lied. When Kipchoge, Bekele, and kipsang say that they are going after a record, they go after a record..same thing with the women.
Dibaba said she was attacking the record, and she did. She didn't have to because there was no competition in the field!. But she did because she said that she would
Now do you see the difference?

Jordan Hasay is america's best distance runner right now, hands down!
Chick ran 2:20, and went out with dibaba. Much respect for running fast on a fast course!
that is how you run. Nothing was given to her, unlike on the men's side...terrible wack race on a fast course.
I think you've been trolling all day, but I'll respond anyways. Had Kimetto, Kirui, or any of those other clowns gone out in 62-63, Rupp would've been right there - then still DROPPED THE HAMMER over the last 10K. Hasay went out with Dibaba because she was trying to WIN THE RACE. Newsflash - the goal is to WIN THE RACE, it's not a time trial. Rupp came to win, and that's what he did - GET OVER IT.
And ya he's just a 2:09 guy? Who blasted 5 miles at sub-4:40 pace to destroy all you're so-called 2:04-2:05 guys - GTFOH.......

Rowrrr!!!
The article I read quote him as follows:
“I’m hoping that it is a quicker race. I would love for it to be a 2:05 or 2:06 race,†Rupp said by phone Thursday. “I wanted to get in a marathon where I thought it was conducive to running fast. I’m not sure right now I’d be ready to compete in like a Berlin, where it’s a 2:03 race, or a London that’s, like, 2:03, 2:04, given that the only ones I’ve done have all been around 2:10. Even though I felt pretty comfortable for most of the races in there until it really started picking up, you can’t just expect to make those huge jumps from, all of a sudden, running 2:10 to 2:03.â€
So, he apparently all he said was he hoped it would be a fast race. It wasn't. Why would he go out and time trial the marathon when he could actually race it. This community is ridiculous, no matter what Rupp would have done today, it would have been wrong. He won the race, get over it.
Trying to win the race? Hasay had no chance in hell, and everyone knew that including her!. There was no doubt about it. Hasay went out because she decided to to go out. She could have easily sat back and picked everyone else a part outside of Dibaba. Kipliagat DNF because the pace was too blazing so Hasay pretty much had third place in the bag.
Hasay went out because that is what women do. They keep the race honest, and they blaze.
Hasay of course had a chance to win - something goes wrong with Dibaba and she's right there - that's why she went. You know, actually racing to WIN.
Two questions:
1.Do you know the difference in a race and a time trial?
2.Do you still think Rupp's "just a 2:09 guy?" That routinely destroys 2:04-2:05 guys....

Look, guy. We don't have these conversations about africans. Why? They run fast. That is why. WE didn't have these conversations with Ryan Hall. why? He ran fast.
So stop it. He is a 2:09 guy, because he has yet to run sub 2:09. The men for the first half of the race were running on 2:13 pace! You think bekele, kipchoge, even Mo, would have just sat back and not take the race?
If this dude doesn't have the gonads or ability to attack a 2:13 pace race, then he is not a fast guy, and doesn't have the confidence in being able to do so.
I doubt he will ever run berlin or london.
Cool, he won. You appreciate that. I don't. I'm a distance runner who loves running, and I will always support the sport. But due to the fast, strong american runners before him I cannot accept his half- a s s running.
That's it. That's my opinion and choice.
I was big fan of Hall as well - he always went for it and laid it out there. But that's not how, ya know, WIN races. And I'm pretty sure the guy you say "is not a fast guy" just closed a marathon with 5 consecutive sub-4:40 miles. Ya, not fast at all....

It was a good run by Rupp, but let's not get carried away with the 5 consecutive sub 4:40s thing being otherworldly. They went through halfway in Berlin right around 4:40 pace.
You're joking right? Go watch that berlin race and see all the guys that ran sub 4:40 way beyond 5 consecutive miles until they blew up around the 13th mile or after...like running 5 consecutive fast miles gives any indication of being able to blaze a fast marathon. but that is why americans are shite...low expectations...and low perception. Renato even said it. I can't wait to see his post on Rupp's race.
I guess you have low expectations. Running 2;09 is a damn shame. He is running the same times that Alberto ran in the 80s, and alberto still has the faster PR.
The object is to win the race.
Like a home run, distance doesn't count as long as it clears the fence. There was no reason to try and blow out his fastest race and risk not winning.
That was the whole point of getting rid of rabbits, so it's a race run by the runners there, not a time trial. Check last years winning time.
Pretty funny how 5 years ago at letsrun, it would be "an American will never win another marathon". Now that Rupp wins, the win doesn't count because it isn't fast enough.
You are a pretty good troll. Take another hit off your bong and tell us how you'd mix it up in the lead pack in Berlin.

Not true.
rupp has beaten several 205 to 206 guys.
he is not in fast races, good conditions.
chicago he ran 2.00 pace for 1/5 of the race.
rupp is definitely a 205 to 206 guy now.
progress or a great day makes 204 possible.
but the next step, now with the win, is to take on the 203 guys and see what happens.

He separated sometime during the NBC commercial
Actually it was when they were showing the two lead women running by themselves long after Dibaba had broken the race open. It was OBVIOUS the mens race was "ON" when they did this. Obviously the people deciding which camera shot to show knows absolutely nothing about running.
